I've posted this at the Creative Cow site, too...
Still using Avid Xpress DV 3.5. Also use Boris Red 3.04 as a plug-in.
The font looks great in Boris but after I "apply" it to the host, then render it, it doesn't look "vectored." It looks jagged.

I checked with the Boris specialist at Avid and he says that when Red is used as a plug in, the render happens in the Avid editor and not in Red. I think it's related to the yellow/gren settings as in you may be rendering in draft mode. Can you check that please.

Or a simple DV codec compression degredation?

You're right that the host application, in this case, Avid, does the rendering. I don't know what you mean by the "yellow/green" settings...

How do I check about a codec degredation?
That determines what setting you are on.... donttrying rendering in Draft and see if that changes the jaggies.

Boris red pugins frame rate you have to cheak if its lower than the avid that looks jagged .
Could you be more specific. Are you saying "don't" render in draft? Are you talking about while I'm in Boris? Boris allows you to view your timeline in a number of settings. Just before I "apply" the setting to Avid I can either "preview to ram" or "preview to ram at half rate" or "preview to ram at quarter rate." I've tried each of these previews before "applying" to avid and it makes no difference. According to the Boris manual, when you're working from the host ap, the draft or (higher quality) settings make no difference when you finally render in Avid. Is there something else I'm missing...
Finally - Is it possible that a different mouse could affect fonts in Avid?
no i am telling that the softwere u r using it's maximem sige of video format lite :320x240. 720x576like in some soft it out put size very poor resolution.
u have choice u render it in- targa. jpg, or tiff file then import it as a sequence file then u will be getting out of ur problem.
You can adjust your render settings in Avid to HQ or standard quality...to use the effect render (in any given effect dialog) or override and render according to Avid settings...

FWIW, I replied to the original poster's other thread on the same topic that there isn't a render quality mode in XDV 3.5. There must be something else that is awry here. I'm curious what this font is though.
Well - never could figure why I was getting bad looking text after rendering -even though the frame rates in Boris & Avid are the same and any quality settings from both programs are at their highest.
However - When I made a qt reference movie and the final dvd, both qt reference & final dvd looked great - no jagged edges. So, I don't know why I'm suddenly getting jaggy text only when viewing from the Avid timeline.
thanks -
