Hello! Can anyone help me with something that seems like it should be so basic. I have just installed Nero into my computer so I can burn dvd files. What kind of export should I do from the avid (5 minute film) so that I get the best quality dvd? Everything I have tried so far looks really crappy.
Please Help.
Thank you!

Mary Sue, there are so many threads on this subject please try to search some. I will give you a few pointers:
Export Quicktime reference
Get an encoding programm that takes the QTref and encodes to Mpeg2
Get a DVD authoring application that is able to take the mpeg 2 and create a simple DVD for you (DVD-It, Adobe Encore etc etc)

Thanks a a lot. I apologize in advance for asking this stupid question but.... I guess I need to know if I need an encoder program before I go to Nero? If so; what is a recommended encoder I can download cheaply?
Thanks again.
hai. you can get plugin to nero. otherwice i have one think if u wnt to use
in avid export the film in to quick time movie or dv steam when its exported go to canopus softwer then chuse target to dvd which option u like there u can convert to dvd . vcd whichever . then go to ur nero soft lookate the out puted by canopus soft of the dvd directory then write ur dvd.

The full version of Nero 8 has conversion tools in it, so you may not need an encoding program. Take a look and see if there is a DVD preset or MPEG2 preset or something like that (it's been a long time since I used Nero and I don't remember).
If there's nothing, then yes, you need an encoding program. Squeeze and Procoder are two popular choices. If you upgrade to Media Composer (boxed version, not the download) you get Squeeze 5 for free.
good luck,Carl
Thank you all for your help. As it turns out it was pretty simple. I guess my nero has an encoding program so I just exported from Avid as a quick time reference (I had been sending the sequence to avid studio before duh!) and then i imported to nero and it worked fine.
Yaay!
