Hey Guys,
I'm running MC 2.8/Adrenaline on a G5 Mac and am about to upgrade to MC 3.0.1. Before I install the new software I would like to re-stripe the (4) Ultra 320/LVD 7th Gen 10K drives we have connected to the system (I'm doing this mainly to optimize performance).
I'd like to know what people would recommend in terms of backing-up the 125GB of current media on the LVD drives before I go ahead and stripe/reformat them using Express Stripe.
Will I be able to copy the original media back onto the newly striped drives without issues? Or, will I be creating a huge headache, where the original media is no longer linked to its respected project?
Please excuse any ignorance with this post, as this is something I don't normally do. I'd really appreciate anyone's best practices for this. Thanks!
You'll have absolutely no problems with the data syncing up - Avid is beautiful about all that. When you open Avid it looks for OMFI MediaFiles folders on all attached drives.
Also....since you cannot defrag data drives with Avid, I think that copying everything off, restriping and then copying back on is the back door way of defragging that will not upset Avid. So in my opinion you are doing the right thing.
You also should toast your index files in the OMFI MediaFiles folder and let Avid reindex after you copy the data back on. This isn't mandatory for moving data around, but is just a healthy thing to periodically do.

Thanks for the great info Kyler. I really appreciate your help. I hope to get started on this as soon as my current project slows down.
