Disabling a transition for keyframing work?

So I often have a problem when I have an effect on a clip that I'm trying to keyframe and also have a transition on it as well.  Let's say I have a 3D Warp on the clip and I want to set a position keyframe at the beginning of the clip and the end of the clip.  If I have a transition at the beginning or end, I obviously can't see the clip I'm working on while trying to adjust parameters at those points in time because I see either the incoming/outgoing clip or black.

While reading the Premiere forums, someone asked if it was possible to disable a transition without deleteting it so that they could do the same thing I'm asking.  People told him that you can't disable the transition and that you'd have to delete it.  He was mad and said that this was a feature that Avid had for a long time.  I didn't know Avid had this feature, but it would be great if it did.  If it does, how do I disable a transition so I can work on the segment effect without having the distraction of the dissolve of another clip coming in or going out?  If it doesn't have this, I guess I'll just continue on being sad...

Not that I know of. You can turn off render on the fly but that would kinda defeat the purpose. I've always had to drag the transition to a bin, remove it and then reapply.

Re: Disabling a transition for keyframing work?

Thanks for the reply BLKDOG.  I've run into a problem with that approach when I had to use the tracker controls to stabilize my footage.  If I take off the dissolve, the amount of footage used is obviously less.  So when I track my footage and reapply the dissolve, the front end or back end is not tracked because those frames didn't exist in the timeline.  If I do it with the dissolve on, however, it takes the dissolve into consideration for the length of the clip, but it also pollutes the picture I'm trying to track with the incoming/outgoing clip, therefore not allowing me to accurately track the beginning/end anyway.

Doing simple keyframing like you suggested is also kind of hard if you're not in "elastic keyframe" mode because a keyframe you think you're putting at the beginning of the clip is no longer the beginning once you add the dissolve.

Seems like it's a no win situation :(

Re: Disabling a transition for keyframing work?

work around I've always used when I needed access to all the key farmes in a full sgement effect that transitioned in/out: move the clip up a track and trim out the needed handles, adjust the keyframes on the segment, then apply the transitions starting at/ending at the effect segment. Not the most elegant solution, and a bit of a pain if the tracks above already have stuff, but does achieve the desired results.

    good luck

Yea, that's the solution I end up using when it's possible.  Just kind of a pain in the neck and was hoping there was an easier way.  Thanks for the input.
