Hi Avid/ DS people.
After the unsuccessful appeal to users to make tutorials for Post Magazine (only one, thank you Marc Fisher) I think is up to developers to make something like the old DS Nitris 7.6 Learning Collection for DS 10.
Like this that are done for Flame 2009.
Looking forward to see them, thanks in advance,
Laurentiu

I hope Avid does some "new thinking" on this one. A training version is critical for DS to survive. It's current user base is way too small. That's largely because of accessibility of the software. Why not give away the version with no I/O? I would very much be interested in a laptop version of DS. If for no other reason than to be able to more easily train editors and freelancers in our market. I think one of DS's key limitations is the fact that it's too damn hard to learn for the average joe. That's only partly because of it's difficult learning curve. By all means, put it in the hands of all who want to learn it.

Actually a group of enthusiastic and passionate DS customers, many of them are also beta testers of DS 10, are currently working on tutorials for DS from beginner to advanced to send to POST as well as to upload to avid.com tips and tutorials. The issue has been footage which we just got for them so I expect we will see some great stuff from this group over the next few weeks. A list of what needs to be crafted has been done and now it is time to execute.
Also, Jim Maxwell at Avid is currently revising the training programs and documentation for DS and this shoud be ready after the product ships.
We are on it folks and have been for a while and you will soon see the results.
Questions, ping me directly.

Absolutely! And please note that Avid DS v10.0 will start as a Training Edition software if not licensed. This was indeed intended as educational and on many PC and laptop with OGL 2.0 capabilities. Coming soon this month!

Where will this material be published when it is ready? -at softimage.com or avid.com

Hello Whiz, but... What part did you not understand in my post?
I said that Avid DS v10.0 STARTS as a Training Edition software if you don't license the product. It IS that training application that everyone was asking for...
At this time, a free download access is not yet available for we are working as fast as possible to make this available to the public, probably by next week.
Expect this download package to be available from the trial Product section on Avid.com.

I think he was referring to training material as in tutorials, not a training version of the program. Much like the tutorials that were referenced in the first post for Flame.
Sorry if I wasn't clear about what i meant.
I did understand that it would start as a training edition when you install the package. What I meant was, where will the tutorials AND the trainingversion of DS, be available for download if you don't buy the system. -and you just answered that question. Thank you
Just out of curiosity. Why would someone need a training edition if they have allready bought the system? -or am I missing something?
"... Why would someone need a training edition if they have allready bought the system? ..."
For Assistant Editors, and others, to learn on.
"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
ok, makes sense.
Yes indeed, the intended audience is not actual DS users. We do wish more people will take a look at the interface, browse and play with it, see that it is not that difficult to learn (if anyone can use FCP....) and maybe decide to acquire and work with a real one.
Also, the DS freelance pool is rather thin in many markets worldwide and the Training Edition can allow more people to learn the product at their own pace.
Just so you know, the DS v8.4 Assist Station 45-days trial is soon to be replaced by the 32-bit Avid DS v10.0 Training Edition off the Trial Products section of the Avid website, so you won't need an access to the Download Center or a friend that uses DS to get access to a copy. We are working out the final details but this should happen very soon.

I can't wait!!!
HI slicker,
Jim Maxwell is currently revising the DS training materials with fresh content and footage. October is the target date.
