Hello all,
Just received a DVCAM tape from a client. I have a JVC BR-DV3000 that allegedly reads said media (http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/tech_desc.jsp?model_id=MDL101372&feature_id=02). The audio bars on the front of the deck bounce. The "DVCAM" LED is illuminated on the front of the deck. But I can't see any video or hear any audio in Capture over DNA-1394.
The questions are:
Have you checked the tape by playing into just a monitor directly? Is the deck settings correct for DVCAM playback?

Thanks for getting back to me, Solopost. Unfortunately, we do not have any direct video or audio monitor currently going out of the deck, only the Firewire. Also, the deck's physical placement makes it impractical to make that happen at present. However, I think I found a solution.
I don't know if it's a combination of my using an Adrenaline box + the JVC BR-DV3000 + MC 3.0, but here's what ultimately worked:
1. Quit MC, if open.
2. Power cycle the Adrenaline and the JVC BR-DV3000.
3. Open MC.
4. Wipe out your current settings in "Deck Configuration".
5. Re-add the Avid DNA Firewire Channel and perform Auto-Configuration.
6. Set your deck's properties to the exact deck (mine was listed as "JVC BR-DV3000U").
7. Go to your "Capture" tool and roll tape. You should now see video and hear audio.
Even when doing all of that, support for DVCAM seems flaky somewhere in the processing chain. For example, after doing all of the above, you might eject the tape on accident (like I did), re-insert the tape into the deck, try to capture again, and only get video with no audio. Or you may get see an exception / error in a dialog box. Or you may get nothing coming through the Adrenaline, although the audio bars are clearly bouncing on the front of the deck. All of these instances happened to me. The only way to get A/V back was to start from Step 1 again. Perhaps this is something that can be looked at in 3.01 | 2 | 3 for Windows?
At any rate, for now, problem solved. Thanks for your input on this matter. Gauging by the lack of interest in this thread, I must be the only to have experienced this problem.
Do you have the deck plugged into the DNA directly? If so, try plugging it directly into your CPU and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your response as well.
As I mentioned before, time constraints and the deck's physical location make any possible solution involving altering its connections inconvenient to test right now. If the above solution doesn't work in the future, I may revisit this and let you know.
Considering that the DNA has to be close to your CPU, how inconvenient could it be?
Is the deck plugged into your DNA? If so, that could very well be the problem. If you can't plug it into your CPU to test, I don't know how much more help we can be.
Again, thank you for your offer, but I think the problem is solved.
Yes, the deck's plugged into the DNA.
I guess inconvenience is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps a snapshot of the spaghetti mess of SCSI, power, and firewire cables would help illustrate my point?
That aside, as stated before the problem is solved. Follow the (7) steps previously outlined and the JVC BR-DV3000 will send the video and audio through the Adrenaline. This solution worked in all cases cited above as well as when the problem was reproduced.
