    HDV/HD advice

    hey guys

just planning my life for the next couple months...  doing a project that i will be delivering on Sony HDCAM as well as an SD version.

however some of the material is arriving HDV,  so naturally i thought i would transcode all that material to DNxHD, which i started doing, but my gosh its a lot of material to transcode....  but scrolling thru the HDV material its such sluggish format to edit in, when i transcode it, its smooooooooth editing like in SD mode....  i reckon i just got to bite the bullet and get it all converted????  whatch all think?

have many avids all different, so cant post all specs... will rather say as required [view my complete system specs]

I really prefer the transcode workflow. For me, I either take the time upfront or have it eat away at my session a little at a time all the way through. Makes things easier on the back end when you are trying to get out to tape/export too.

Depending on your time to transcode, capturing into DNX (or SD) via SDI from an HVR1500 deck might be faster. SDI and HD-SDI out to your Avid with rs-422 and then you can upres only what you need later. Just an alternate flow.

I couldn't agree more. The HVR1500 will be your best friend:
