I could really use some help…. Here’s my problem: I am on a g5, osx 10.4.11, 3gbs Ram using MCSoft 2.8.3. with a Mojo SDI. I am using a 1TB external 7200rpm Firewire drive. I have a Sony JH-3 deck. I am trying to capture HDCam footage shot at 59.94. I made window-burns to DVD for the client, she logged them and then gave me her selects. I have tried hooking up the deck, Component, SDI and Composite, no video. Also, no audio. I have made a project at 59.94, I open the capture tool, I can select my audio-A1-A2, but the video says “No Inputs Available”. I made a project at 30i, I open the capture tool, I can select my audio-A1-A2, I CAN select V1 in whatever input I want but nothing captures. I get a message saying “No valid video signal in current video input”. I tried using internal sync. I connected the sync on the deck to the word clock connector and I continue to get the same messages. I don’t have a black burst. I have never used a JH-3 before, I am able to control it with my Keyspan. Are there settings in the deck that I need to set? Thanks, Kent Kreiger Kreiger Post

Kent:
Since you don't mention it, have you gone into the deck configuration settings, created the proper channel and associated a deck template with it?

sounds like deck config to me too.

Sorry for the oversight, I went to Deck configuration and selected the Soby JH-3. 3 second pre-roll. It was in the list.

And can I take it that you've already checked all your cable connections in and out of the deck and the Avid and tried some cable swap outs? And since your system specs don't list it, are you running a qualified graphics card?
I have a ATI Radeon 9600. I did check all cables.
I'm not trying to caputure HD. Since the original footage was shot at 59.94 I was told that I could caputure it into a 29.97 project, but I haven't been given that option in the Avid. I SHOULD (unless I'm mistaken) be able to bring the footage into my Avid via the Mojo SDI to do an offline and then go to an Avid that CAN do HD for the online.
You are correct. You should be able to bring in 59.94 footage into a 29.97 project. I know you say you don't have signal, but do you have deck control, or do you get a "no deck" prompt in the capture tool? If you do have deck control, then at least we know the configuration is good.
Oh, and while I can't find system requirements for 2.8.3 anywhere to confirm this, I don't believe the ATI Radeon card was supported.
I do have deck control. How do I make a 29.97 project? The only 29.97 option I get is 720p 29.97 HDV and that didn't work. That's why I tried 59.94.
If you're not getting an appropriate 29.97 option in the "format" tab of the new project window, you can create a 30i project and work in that with 59.97 material.
When I originally got the system, I was running MCSOFT 2.6. I got purchased the system from a Avid certified reseller in Phoenix. I have had no problems with Beta or Digi-beta decks.
OK then at this point, it seems to be pointing back to the deck itself. Have you confirmed video and audio output from the deck straight into a monitor?
On the front of the deck it has 29.97. I have a 30i project. I am connected to the SD-SDI and not the HD-SDI.I have connected my Sony monitor directly to the deck and I can see video.
I think you need to spend some time in the Sony's menu. to make sure that that is setup correctly.
With my HDCAM deck I can get as picture on a direct connection to a monitor with all sorts of wrong frame rates. Getting that signal to another HDCAM deck or Avid in a format that either will record requires all the settings to be correct on both source and record.
I do not have any experience with the JH 3 but from your posts I would suggest looking at the JH 3's downconvert to SD SDI setting first.
Thanks for the continued dongle support
That deck has on output menu selection. Are you certain that it is set to the proper output?
