Been getting this error all day since upgrading to 3.0:
Exception: Std::exception, what:St9bad_alloc
Everything is up to spec except for my video card which is an ATI Radeon X1900 XT.
Could that be the problem?
Running:
Media Composer 3.0
Leopard 10.5.3
QT 7.4.5
MacPro 3.0Ghz 8-core with ATI Radeon X1900 XT
I also want to add that we seem to get this error mostly when using the Audio Mixer or Audio Suite tool.
This error is almost always due to the monitor's resolution setting. Do you have it set to the default or have you increased it? The higher your monitor's resoution is set, the more you will see this. See if you bring it down into the 1920 range and see if things improve. Better yet, if it's not there already, drop it to the default.

We are cutting on two cinema displays, one 30" and one 23". The resolution on the 30" is set to 2650x1600 . . . could this be the problem? We will try it at 1920x1200 and see if it makes a difference.
Yep, that's usually the problem. Setting it to 1920 has fixed this error in the past.
I've been getting this error for weeks and weeks nothing I do seems to stop it. I did drop the monitor resolution to 1920 a while ago (I have an 8-core macpro with 8 gigs of ram, 30" monitor and an older 20" apple monitor).
I seem to be able to edit for about 10 min then out of memory error or this error. If I don't save immediately that avid will spin out and I have to force quit.
I have thrown away the usual avid settings files, created new projects.
I believe, however, it might be related to the sequence I'm working on, I'm wondering if it's some corrupt media. a "repairsequences" command in the console doesn't seem to do anything.
I'm glad someone else is having the same problem.

I'm having the exact same issues here. It's always this error or the "Out Of Memory" error.
Dropping the resolution of the monitor has helped a bit, but we're still getting these errors.
Are you also running the ATI x1900 graphics card? That's the next thing I'm thinking about swapping out.
Also, we're working with a lot of grouped clips, are you?
no, I'm not working with any group clips. I'm working in a 100 min sequence. monitor resolution didn't seem to help much. I am using the ATI graphics card that shipped with it, the 1900, I was thinking of moving over to the Nvidia but not sure that's the problem or not. Don't want to spend the money for no reason.
this basically makes editing on the AVId usable in 10 min time frames before you have to save and restart.
You don't have a Mojo or an Adrenaline...do you?
I have a mojo, but I unplugged it cause of the firewire bug.
this error is so incredibly frustrating. you'll be working and out of memory, or the above error, usually you can save and then after that it just freezes if you don't quit immediately. I tried this on a fresh partition and various monitor sizes. I'm thinking it's some configuration with my system OR the sequence I'm working in is corrupt. I have tried copying new projects, new bins, copy the sequence, go to repairsequences in the console, nothing seems to help.
I haven't had the opportunity to edit in other projects/sequences, but when I have, it seems to be better, but I don't know if that's because they are shorter sequences or different sequences. The sequence I'm editing in is 105 min.
I think the next step would be to hack the sequence into pieces and see if it still does it.
We're running no Avid hardware . . . just the MacPro.
Have you tied different monitors? Cinema displays hate running at anything other than native res. Also with that graphics card you are pushing the envelope with dual larger displays. Have you tried running Avid with a single monitor? Open the console tool after you launch Avid. Usually there will be some indicator about the graphics capability of the card...
I have failed to find any relevant information on the subject so I am adding my issues to this thread. FYI, I have followed all the information posted by BLKDOG (my monitor is currently at 1280x1024, 75 hertz) and others and no dice.
Running Quicktime 7.4.5
Media Composer 3.0.5
OS 10.4.11
Unity 5.1 client
I have 7 video tracks, 14 audio tracks, and has the Audio Suite open. I also have unrendered titles and effects on my timeline. Btw, I have been editing this sequence for atleast 3 days since my last crash. Before that I was getting Bus Error 0x0 and these have stopped. I am freezing up and cannot just click out of the error and continue to work. Thoughts?
