    Exporting a large sequence

I have a 4 hour project on my timetine and am trying to export it so I can put it on a DVD. I can't export the whole thing as one file and if I break it up, the smaller files are 30 Gb a piece. Any suggestions on how I can get this thing exported and on a DVD?

    Thanks

     4 hrs?  What is it, a mini-series?

When I do it as a Quick Time Reference file it says "Long GOP media cannot be exported using Quick Time Reference. Export as Quicktime Movie"

That is because you have some kind of MPEG Long GOP media in your timeline  (HDV, IMX, etc). You need to transcode those files or mixdown your video tracks before exporting.

Hei, 4 hours video on a 4,7 GB dvd disk is a lot to much, isn't it. My experience is that one our is optimal and for some projekts You can  have 1,5 h video, but then You have to produse the DVD with lower bitrate. 9300 Bit/s should be optimal and should play on most players.

    Re: Exporting a large sequence

I think you'll find that a target video bitrate of less than 8000 is more likely to be compatible with most players. 9300 bps is really pushing it in my experience. I agree, 4 hours of video on a single layer DVD will typically result in rather poor quality.

What is your source material, BTW. I first encountered the long-GOP QT Ref issue with HDV material. Doing a mixdown solved the problem, but it does use a lot of disk space since it will convert your material to a DNxHD codec (probably at 145 mbps compared to HDV at 25 mbps)...

All the source footage is in HDV. I cannot seem to get it to export as a quicktime reference to save me.

Yoy have to do a videomixdown and replace existing videotracks with this new mixdowntrack. Start with taking a kopi of Your sequence before you make a mixdown. Then You willl be able to export a quicktime reference
