Hi all,
I recently upgraded to MC 3.0 from Xpress 5.8. I was going through some projects on my machine and on some clips the video is split and shifted. I don't even know how to explain it, but I am attaching an image to this post. Even if I export, i get this shifted image problem.
I am using the correct versions of Quicktime, etc. I have also tried Quicktime Safe Mode.
Thanks
Hi,
Never seen that before. What happens if you create a new user and open the bins from within a new project?
good luck,
Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
So here is some good stuff...
The error happens on 1:1 SD footage at exactly the same place on all my clips... which is at frame 1;39;09
Upon further looking I see that with 1:1 footage, this is the exact point at which the clip is split into a new MXF file in the Avid database directory (because the file splits when it reaches 2GB).
At the end of each of the clips that has this problem I see in my composer window this error:
AsyncFileIOHelper::ReadStreamAsync asyns EOF error.
Also, i opened these projects on another machine that still has AXP 5.8 and there is no problem.
and opening the bins in new projects does not fix it either.
From what I can tell, the error is happening on any SD footage that is MXF and spanning multiple 2gb files.
From my visits to the 3.0 farm, I've seen async errors being solved by scanning databases. The errors are not the same...yours is an "EOF" (end of frame) error, while mine have been "async file system error" and "async canceled operation error." But just for the heck of it, have you tried trashing your databases & rescanning them?
Regarding it spanning across 2 GB files--is the error occurring in the middle of the file? As in, where the next 2GB file should be picking up?
I know I've seen P2 media--just in a master clip, even--where the beginning of the clip is online and plays fine, then in the middle of the clip I get "media offline" and then footage comes back at the end. Is this similar in nature, where the error is only showing in half of the clip? ...as in, the first part of the clip is fine, then at 1:39 (or whatever) it goes out?

rebuilt... unfortunately it did not fix the problem.
I can't really say if it's happening exactly where the file splits, but looking at the sizes of the mxf files and judging percentages, I would say yes.
Once the video splits and get's weird, it stays that way until the end of the clip.
OK, well, i've been dealing with this all day... for me, this is escalating to serious, oh no, please help.
sorry to hear your problem- any way to finish this project on the machine that has AXP 5.8?
have you tried a re-export from the AXP 5.8? maybe change the file on that AXP machine from MXF to QuickTime?
unfortunately these are actually projects that are already complete. The projects are performances from our company that we keep active because we are re-purposing them frequently.
Also, I now see that I cannot export quicktime movies if I use the last frame of any of the clips that throw the EOF error.

MXF files don't split out at 2GB chunks. OMF files do... are you sure these are not OMF?
Just briefly looked at one of my media drives and I have MXF render files that are 5.38GB in size.

Try this please.
1. Create a new project (you can use the one you just created)
2. Create a new User
3. Trash the site settings file and MCState files from the applications folder (Inside the settings folder).
IF that doesn't work, can you copy some of this media to your internal drive and see if the problem still happens there?

yes Kenton is right- are you sure they're not something else? AVI's?

I agree about the file size limitations for MXF files. When I first had this problem that is one of the first things i noticed. They are, indeed, MXF files. And yes, some of my clips from projects aer 5, 10, 15 GB's. And then some clips are 2gb files linked together. I thought maybe it was from having set a capture limit, but I also have some video mixdowns that got split into 2gb chunks.
I created a new project, new user, and trashed the MCState, but it did not fix anything.
I just moved a clip onto my system drive and it did not fix anything. One note, when I attempted to use the Media Tool to consolidate the clip onto a new drive, i kept getting errors (see image). I had to use MDV to move the files.
