Help? A few hours ago, everything was fine. Now, I turn on my Media Composer 3.0 and it tells me "Exception: Failed to initialize audio hardware."
I am running a software only version of MC 3.0 and, again, it was working fine until an hour ago.
I have tried repairing disc permissions and I have restarted the computer. Still getting the error. Any suggestions?
Hi,
What changed? Any hardware installed or removed? Even something small like a USB webcam or microphone? Any software added or removed? Windows automatic updates?
If it's none of that, search the forums for the error message you're getting, or search for "realtek" as that's the audio card that most often causes the error. You'll get a lot of suggestions.
good luck,Carl

Same problem here, albeit intermittently. Waiting for answers!!! The problem is that many people on this board don't see these problems because they are using 1- older systems, or 2 Avid Hardware.I'm convinced that the problem has something to do with the way core audio is handled on the newer Macs.
OSX Leopard / MC3.0 Academic
Trying to use Mbox with system but get the Failed to initialize audio hardware error. Mbox is set up in the settings as the default in/out device. Is there any config file I need to change/delete so that MC can recognise the Mbox?
I had this , too. It was the webcam. Pull it and you're fine.
Wat soll dä Quatsch?
Not got a webcam. This is an install on a virgin Mac Pro 2.8 octocore. I guess my basic question is 'can I get an Mbox to work with MC3?' (having the same problems with my PC suites incidentally)
Did you check if the sound level of the Mac is mute? When you set the sound level of the Mac to zero, it actually disable the audio unit - therefore the Avid can't see it.
Thanks. I've already checked that. It pumps out audio direct to the speakers but will not go through the USB Mbox and then out, causing the aforementioned error message. I'm really loathe to ditch the Mbox and fork out for some other card to get xlr input for punch-ins, so any further suggestions really welcome.
