I'm trying to uninstall the old versions of all the Avid apps before upgrading. Everything uninstalled fine except for Media Composer. Every time I try to uninstall that I get "Error: uninstall failed" with no more information.
Is there something else I can try? Can I just do a search for everything Avid and delete it? I'm trying to get this installed in the next hour.

You can try just dragging the icon to the trash. That should unistall, I think ?

I'm just wondering if there are any lingering files that I need to get rid of as well. Anyone?
I would do a finder search for all files and folders named "Avid" and delete everything that shows up.

Here's a related thread I started on the subject with some additional links you may find helpful.
Thanks Larry,
I've decided to upgrade my OS to 10.5.3 and then try uninstall again. Then, if it still doesn't work, I'll just delete everything Avid and hope I'm not deleting anything necessary for the upgrade. If anybody thinks this is a mistake, please let me know. I was going to call Avid, but I don't want to spend $199 for a phone call.

You're welcome, Stacie. Best of luck. Stay in touch and let us know what happens.
Well..... that was apparently the wrong thing to do. I deleted everything Avid and installed V3, but now I get message when trying to start Avid that "Your system is not licensed to run this version of the software. Please contact an Avid representative for further assistance." Is this just a dongle updater issues? I must confess a great deal of ignorance with the dongle updating.
Yes you're right, don't worry, it's just a dongle update issue. You'll find a dongle updater app in I believe the utilities folder.
I found dongle manager and ran the software, but it wants an updater.avd file for the update, and I don't have that.
I bought MC after March 17th and qualified for a free 3.0 upgrade before July 15th. I downloaded the software, but held off on installing because I was in the middle of a Final Cut job. Now I'm ready to install, but don't have an updater file and it's way past July 15th. I haven't found a way to actually speak to a human at Avid without paying $199. Not sure what to do next, but I have a call in to my reseller.
I'm trying to reinstall 3.0 in hopes of different results, but not holding my breath.
Your re-seller should be able to handle this for you. If you don't get satisfaction there, I recommend you email Marianna Montague who is an Avid Customer Advocate who participates regularly on this forum. Just search for Marianna. She has helped many other users in similar situations. I'm confident this matter will ultimately be settled to your satisfaction.
My reseller got me the versioner file and all is well. My dongle is updated and the software seems to be working. Manual uninstall seems to have worked fine. Spotlight finds everything related to Avid pretty well.
Good. Glad to hear that situation got resolved for you. Keep in mind if you ever run into a serious customer service roadblock, Marianna is the one who can break up the logjam.
You may try Add/Remove 4Good, which can easily uninstall any stubborn applications. I've tried this software. It works pretty fine on XP.
