Hi Guys
We've got a documentary that's been mastered onto HDCam 1080i (59.94) which has now been picked up by a theatrical distributor. We've got to make a few edits and do some graphics changes before shooting this out to film.
So my question to you is what is the best work flow in terms of taking the 1080i 59.94 master and producing an appropriate 24p edl?
Thanks for your help.
Sorry if this question has been answered before, but I couldn't find the post.
What was the aquisition format? 24p or 59.94?

59.94. I'm guessing it was mainly shot on Standard Def NTSC, but we're only working here with the mastered feature. No going back to the rushes unfortunately. The audio element are also on the HD (which is actually an SR) so there's no issue here with sync.
So why would you need a 24fps EDL? Why not simply break the show up in reels, have it converted to 23.98p (Teranex or something like it) and take it to an Arri Laser?
I had a feeling that converting the HD might be the way to go, I was just hoping I would be able to work directly from the master, as there's a number of edits to make, before we send it to be re-graded etc...
Is there a way to successfully make a 24p compatible edl in a 60i project? These are probable daft question but we're based in the UK and it's the first time an 59.94i to Film project has come our way.
I don't really know what the 24fps EDL is going to reflect since none of the sources are 24fps. What is the need for the EDL? A Teranex, Sell & Wicox, etc. will make a new 24p submaster from your 1080i master.
