Hi, I am trying to convert a 6 GB video (30 mins) to a .avi file.
Each time I try, the file size ends up only being a few seconds long...what am I doing wrong?
Hi,
In your export settings, make sure Use Marks and Use Enabled Tracks are deselected. If that's not it, come back to this thread and we'll try other things.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
ok...the first time I tried it with the new settings, I got an error message saying:
EXCEPTION: Maximum size of AVI file has been reached. Resulting output may not be complete.
(The size of my video is 6.05 GB...so is there a size limit for avi files?)
So I tried also exporting it to a WMV file and it exported the whole video, but the quality is terrible :(
.....what else should I try?
Avid only supports AVI type I, which has a maximum file size limit of 2 GB. Try changing your settings with your WMV encoding - if you're compressing too heavily the quality will be terrible in whatever format you use.
You might also want to try Quicktime movies. First I would recommend you determine the maximum allowable file size for your uploads, then create a customized QT profile in the Avid export tool and experiment with different levels of compression, image size, qualities and bit rates until you're happy with a "best bang for the file size buck" end product.

does anyone else want to have the option of AVI- past type 1? Seems like it would be nice not to have the 2 gig restriction!
just so i have this right before i spend anymore time on it....
1) i should STOP trying to convert my video to an avi file and just stick to quicktime or wmv??
2) also... I've tried to encode a video using Super on a Quick Time Reference File I exported from Avid. But where can find some information about what settings to use in Super for a QT Reference file to get an MPEG4 out on the other end. My first try yielded a black screen that said NO Video Stream in red letters : (
ps. is this forum the right place to ask these types of questions? or is there somewhere else I should try to find help?
my end goal is to put my 30 min tv episodes (6GB) on the web...so how do I make that happen and keep REALLY GOOD quality?

Does the website you're going to put them on have any guidance, or are you putting them on your own website so you can do whatever you want?
As I said before, you need to FIRST find out the largest file size that the website can handle for your upload and go from there. Also, if they don't support the quicktime format for upload, you need to know what format they do support and expect. Some conversion of the final export may be necessary. Without this information, you're shooting blind.
the website i am trying to put my video on has a 100mb limit and accepts mpeg4 files.
also, i do currently have a customized QT profile in AVID...my problem with "experimenting" with all the different settings is that there are about a million different combinations i could try and I have been doing that for months now...and haven't been able to make it work.
That's why I'm here now! Haha....thanks again for everyone's help!
