Hi,
I have MC3.0 running with a Mojo SDI and for my SD projects the output (client monitor) looks fine using the component output. But with HD footage it doesn't. I think the answer is to use the SDI output. If that's the case I'm wondering if there's any other option since I'm trying not to spend a couple of g's on a broadcast client monitor. I'm using a 1080p consumer LCD.
I know Blackmagic makes the HDLink and HDLink Pro, and AJA makes the HI5 SDI-HDMI converter. The question is: Which is a better option (Is anyone using them) and if it will be better to get a 28" computer LCD or keep my 1080p consumer HDTV.
I don't to go overboard but want to get whats best without spending crazy money since I only use this system for personal stuff and demos/pilots. I work most of the times from posthouses.
Thanks,
Juan.-
Hello jp0629,
Check out the NanoView: http://www.convergent-design.com/CD_Products_nanoView.htm available late 2008. It looks like what you're looking for... at $325. I know I'll be looking at that converter when it's available.
I find that consumer flat-screen TVs offer a wider angle of view. I find the computer LCD displays still do-the-weird-negative-image-thing when you change your viewing angle. Would you consider buying a "slightly used" PVW series (CRT) Sony monitor ?
Michel
Hi
The MOJO SDI is only for SD. You can't output your HD with the MOJO SDI
You need the new MOJO DX for HD
Thanks Michel, I checked it out and will keep an eye out for it. It looks similar to what blackmagic and AJA are offering at a lower price, which is always a plus as long as the quality maintains.
As far as the monitor I think I want to wait until I figure out a way to make steady money from my system before I keep putting money into it. I tend to always be buying and thinking about getting some in return.
Thanks.-
Hey DOR, thanks for your reply. So what you're saying is that I won't be able to use a preview monitor to see HD/HDV footage?
If so that sucks :( I guess it's why avid came up with the mojoDX
Is there any way around that, just for preview??
Yes you can monitor your HDV material on a "TV" monitor if it's shot at 30fr (29.97) or in PAL at 25fr. 1-Create your project at whatever format you want... (it has to be 30fr and or 25fr for PAL for this trick to work) 2- You ingest your HDV material the way you would usually do. 3- when your digitizing is done, in the project window, switch your project to 30fr (25 in PAL) and you can monitor thru your Mojo. This will NOT work with other frame rate.
Thanks Michel, that was genious!!!
I am seeing the output. I have this project shot 1080i 59.94 and it works perfectly. I also tried it on a 720p 23.976 project, changed it to 23.976p project and it works as well. Thats great.
Well, jp0629, I wish I could take credit for this trick. Others on this forum have "discovered" or used it way before me !
Don't forget to switch back your project to HD before you "digital cut" or "export out".
