    Avid on XSAN

Is it possible to use an XSAN volume for media storage?

I'm not expecting Unity-like project sharing, but would like to use an XSAN network storage volume as though it were local storage.

Has anyone managed this? Any advise?

It should work fine.  It'll appear as local storage to the Avid, similar to TerraBlock.

    Media Composer 3.0 w/Mojo (analog), HP xw8400, 1xQC 3.0GHz, 4GB RAM, FX 3700, 500GB Boot, 1 x 1TB & 1 x 500GB internal SATA media drives, 3-Ware 9690SA... [view my complete system specs]

You may need to use the "alldrives" command in the console to allow this operation.   If the Xsan volumes are greyed out in the digitize tool, you'll need to go through this process.

    Re: Avid on XSAN

I was/am having exactly that problem!

Your post filled me with excitement, but sadly it doesn’t un-grey the XSAN volume in digitise tool. It does however un-grey an AFP share that was previously unavailable for capture!

The only way I’ve managed to capture to the XSAN so far is by logging in as Root. If you’ve any other ideas, I’d been keen to hear...

Did you turn off Drive Filtering in Media Creation Settings?

I do not know Xsan, but I have some clues how SANs works in general. You may set the storage as non-shareable, or samthing like what, because You got database problems if more than one computer use the media at the same time.

And thats make us thinking of more cheap and faster solutions for editing. E.g Avids VideoRaid, former Medea och something like that.

HP xw4600, 3.2Mhz, 4Gb RAM, Mojo. 500GB SATA Bootdrive, 3x500GB internal raid-0 for video, Windows xp sp3, MC3.05 [view my complete system specs]

    Re: Avid on XSAN

Sounds like a pure permissions issue.   When you log in as root,  I'll bet it matches the Root user on the XSAN  Primary and Secondary MDC's.

Check if your "user" that you typicaly log in as on your Avid is able to have full read/write on the Xsan.
