    Wavey Lines on Export

Alright guys, having a huge problem when exporting to quicktime export ref file. The exported video has a weird wavy line around the edge of things, basically on any vertical edge. Its not interlacing as it even happens to static object when there is no camera moment. I have no idea why this should be happening, its 25i 420 project I'm working on. Any ideas what should be happening, all the video is interlaced PAL. And it appearance's to effect pretty much all the video from what I have seen.

Do you have either fillers or mixed formats in your timeline? Both can besolved by doing a mixdown on the video (place in a copy sequence) prior to export XTref or place a submasker on a new video layer on top from head to tail and export the timeline to QTref.

If that is not the case then check to make sure you are using the correct version Quicktime that goes with your version Avid.

Thanks for the reply, I alway do a video mix down before export so I guess it cant be that.  I have been plying around with this for ages now, and havent got anywhere.  Its not really a big problem as I think most people wouldnt even notice it, however it one of thouse things that irriates me.

    Thanks!

Hummm... maybe should not have jumped the gun.  I think maybe some of my tapes were not captured right, is there any way I can find out what format each clip is captured in?

I'm thinking maybe some of them were captured 411 rather than 420, I dont think there is any reason they were because I'm usually pretty good to check stuff like that but just in case.

If this is the case, is there anyway I can get them to export better in a PAL project?  Thanks!

    Re: Wavey Lines on Export

Sorry was away.. if you have 411 and 420 then you effectively have 2 different resolutions hence the wavy lines. What you can do is transcode the 411 files to 420 or recapture the 411 footage at 420 res...

Also a complete video mixdown should solve the issue as well ...

    Re: Wavey Lines on Export

Thats ok, well heres the deal.  I am sure that I captured everything right, but just in case I want to know what it was all captured at.  Say a click on a clip, how can I find out if it was recorded at 411 or 420?

But to be honest I think that the whole project has been affected, I just think shows up more on certain clips than others.

When I do a quicktime export reference, it doesnt give me any interlacing options which I have heard there should be.  Which could meen its a progressive project, however it shouldnt be as I know how to set up my projects.  So I double check to make sure and created a new PAL interlaced project, I then went to export in exactly the same way and still no field options.  So I dont know why these are apearing.

    Any thoughts?

Set bin view to text and scroll to the right.. if you do not see it alter the headings (hamburger menu in the bin)

In QT reference there is is no interlacing option selectable.. QT reference only points to the master clips and uses whatever is there... Smile

    Re: Wavey Lines on Export

Thanks Baklap, hopefully I can do some editing on thursday all going well.  I will check that, but I'm pretty sure its should all be what its ment to be.  Especially as I always do a video mix down before export.

As for what you said about export, I only thought there was ment to be some kind of field option after reading another post.  But I guess that should all be alright then.  I'm starting to think it might be something with the version of quick time being used.  I'm using computers at my uni, and I can remember other problems with quick time.  If thats the case I may try and create a reference and then render it back home on my own computer.

    Thanks for everything!

Just to be sure, after the mixdown you create a duplicate sequence and replace the video tracks with the mixdown right? And you export the QT ref from that timeline... right? Smile sorry for being redundant but you can never be to sure ...

No what I usually do is create an extra track above all the otheres and place the mix down there, then only have that track selected.  When I go into the export, I tick the option to only use slected tracks.  I hope thats right, or is this compleatly wrong?  Thanks!

    Re: Wavey Lines on Export

Glad thats alright.  I ended up doing loads of editing over the past couple of days, so I didnt have chance to do a render.  I did check the QT version and it seemed to be the right version, but I still think it might be something to do with QT.  The version of QT on the computers always seem to crash, not work at all in web browers and so on.

So I think when I do some more editing next week I will try and do a render on my computer with an up to date version of QT, maybe it will help.  Anyway I will let you know and report back, but fingers crossed.  Thanks again.
