Exception: Audio/Video is unexpectedly no longer coming into the system.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post so apologies for any inconveniencies this post might cause lol.

I've read a few posts about the same problem and the error is probably due to my graphics card but I'll explain my issues anyway.

Here's the problem. When trying to capture, there is no video in the composer window (just fuzzy greyness) and it just plays in my Dv Cam.

When trying to capture, the subject matter error occurs.

Also when importing a .mov quicktime video and trying to play it, I can hear the audio but it only displays a white image.

But how come none of these things work but I can play the sample media (boston sequence) that comes with the avid  media composer software.

    Help much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Julius

The "audio/video no longer present" error is almost always cleared by re-cycling the power on the Adrenaline DNA box or Mojo.

The white screen after import means you don't have the codec installed on your system that was used to make the QT movie.

I don't have an Adrenaline DNA box or Mojo, but cheers for the advice anyhow.

Then try a re-launch of the application and choose the opposite power state for the deck. Meaning, if it was off when you launched and got the problem, try launching with it on, or vice versa.

Ok I have tried this but it still has the same effect. Could it be my DV camera?

Do you have another camera or DV deck to substitute as a test? Process of elimination game here.

Have seen this with "iffy" firewire cables; both old ones that had been around a while, and new ones that were longer than the (5m?) standard length.

    MC3.0, XW4600, C2Q9650, 4GB DDR800, FX1700, 160G 7200 SATA (boot) + 2x300G 10K SATA (media), Pyro1394 PCI Express (API-316). Runs fine under XPPro/32,... [view my complete system specs]

I have tried 2 other cameras, and the problem is still the same.

On your screen capture, it appears from the timeline that the system is still in DNA mode. Click the DNA button in the timeline window next to the Avid logo so it displays "1394".

Re: Exception: Audio/Video is unexpectedly no longer coming into the system.

What is the source footage?  Is it possible that you're playing HDV the camera and it's playing okay directly on the camera, but trying to record it via firewire into a 30i (or other standard definition) project without downconverting it--perhaps the camera cannot downconvert it over firewire?

I'm feeling like it's something in that area.  ...or vice-versa, playing SD footage into an HD/HDV project.

Though, perhaps it is related to your video card.  I'm sure you've already heard this, but these are the supported cards for your version of Composer:

    Qualified graphics board (NVIDIA® Quadro FX 1100, FX 1300, FX 1400, FX 3400, FX 3450, 3500)

What version of NVidia drivers are loaded?

Are you sure your quicktime version is still 7.2?  ...just making sure it hasn't accidentally been upgraded (*cough*plugged in an iPhone*cough*).

Another thing, what if you turn off Confidence View in "Video Display" settings.  That's going to turn the record monitor black so you won't see the image anymore.  I don't think this is going to help, as you're seeing greyness there--making me thing there's a problem with the signal coming out of the deck/camera.  (I'm betting it's a conversion problem).

Lastly, another reason I've seen this error before and traced it all the way back to just a thumb drive being plugged in.  Not didging to it, but just being plugged in.  Again, I don't think that's your situation here, because you're not even seeing a signal.  But for testing, try to strip the computer down to bare bones and start from there.

What firewire port are you plugging the camera into?  On-board port or a firewire card?

Other than that, I think they've already covered your import issue.  Importing a Quicktime that comes in all white means you don't have the codecs installed to decode it.  What codec was used from the encoding computer?  That's what you need on your computer.

Hope something in there helps you figure it out!

    ~Hammer
