Is Symphony starting without Mojo DX hardware on a notebook? Would be nice to have sec. CC on location without heavy equipment.
Symphony requires either the "classic" Nitris box or the new NitrisDX box, there is no software only mode for Symphony. Also, I'm not sure that it would be possible to run it on a notebook. Symphony is sold as turnkey only and a very powerful computer (xw8600 or MacPro) is included.

Since it shares 98% of MC's code, my guess would be that it works, but that it won't launch without the SW. Which in itself is a disadvantage over having MC. If your Nitris DX dies on you, and you own MC, you can still launch the application. If your Nitris DX dies on you, and you own Symphony, you're toast.
If you're looking to grade onset, you could run DS Assist on a notebook. Same color tools and the editing interface is not too much different. Plus the upcoming release has some great color management tools and you can work with 2K DPX or Tif files.
Downside is that you won't be able to take the project back into Symphony/Composer easily, once you're back in your studio.
Definitely worth a look. I've even been told it will run on MBP under Bootcamp.
