Hi,
finally made my first commercial on XPpro and AE. Somehow I won't get my sequence
to record on my DVCAMtape in my DSR-11. Not whith the digital cut tool and
not manually (holding rec and play, while playing my sequence out in XPpro).
What am I doing wrong?? I did this years ago without any problem with a similar
configuration.
thanks,

Go into your user settings "deck configuration" and make sure you have the proper type of channel configured - you don't mention whether you're analog, SDI or Firewire - and that you have the right deck template assigned to that channel.

Thanks for the quick reply Larry.
According to my deck configurations I hooked up my firewire to the OHCI and the DSR-11, which
is right, right?
I can control the through the Digital Cut tool (and the capturetool), but it simply won't record.
The thing is, I also work with XPDV on a windows PC and I can't make it work there either. DV has the 'enable digital video out option', but when I switch it on I immediately get all kinds of error messages.
Anyway, because I can't export to tape on either system, I get the feeling I overlook something simple.
Could you give me some advice again? Today I have to deliver the tape to the broadcaster, so any (quick) help would be great!
thanks!
Yes for firewire, your channel is configured properly. Do you have any other firewire devices connected? If so, only one FW device can be connected at a time. Firewire does not work and play well in "hub" environments. Also, when the deck is in record standby mode, do you see and hear signal through it? If so, you should be able to manually roll the deck in record and manually roll your sequence to at least get it to tape. If not, check and make sure the proper input is selected on the deck.
Larry,
I can control the deck from within AVID and ther's no other device attached to it, although AVID keeps reminding me before the connection to the deck is made 'the OHCI port is busy and cannot be used for deck control'. However I can do everything with the deck except recording.
I tried recording manually for a couple of times, won't work. The deck says it's recording, I play my sequence out, and when I look back: NOTHING!
?
thanks
Permit me a basic, obvious question here. Could it be that the record safety tab on the tape in the deck is in it's "write protect" position? Process of elimination game here.
Already checked it!
it's in rec mode!
Your specs don't indicate it, but do you have a Mojo? If so, how about hooking up an analog signal flow to the deck with RS-422 via a channel configured for the "direct on Com 1" port and see if you can get a digital cut that way?
I dont' have a Mojo.
My (basic) setup:
Mac pro directly connected with FW to the DSR-11 deck. Client monitor Sony LMD 1410 with S-video connected to my DSR-11 deck.
I tried to write back to a camera device, to make sure the deck is ok, but the same result here...
OK i'm starting to run out of ideas, but let's try reconfiguring the channel for a generic deck profile instead of the specific template for the DSR-11 and see what happens.
you're on to something!
I now 've got something on tape, but there are bars all over the place, consisting of pink and green squares. Looks like a connection problem.
ideas?
thanks already!
Try a different FW cable.
If I replace the tape (used) I've just tested with a blank tape,
nothing happens again..
2 more things to try (assuming that you're clips are in DV resolution):
1. Go into your Network settings and see if there's something using the Firewire port. If so, delete it.
2. Try importing color bars at DV resolution and see if they will record correctly.
Let us know your OS and QT versions too.
Thanks hbrock,
I pulled myself back from the Mac this weeknd and let it rest for a while. Today I checked the entire
proces and configuration again, started to record on a fresh new tape and..... it records!
Thanks guys for the quick help, still a bit weird, didn't change anything and now it works.
