    Avid DVD by sonic

I am having some problem in creating dvd with chapters. Well when I got MC 3 with avid dvd, I want to create dvds with chapter.

I have followed the 'how to make dvd' tutorials from the avid timelime to squeeze, then to Avid DVD by Sonic. This is my problem; After creating the mpeg2 from squeeze, and importing to avid dvd, I experienced some error when I tried to create/burn dvd.

First I noticed that you cannot have a blank space at the beginning of your avid timeline even if you have audio where there is no video. This will give you errors when you try to burn a dvd

Secondly, when I created the chapters and manage to playback after burning, the first image is upside down, then goes to a green screen, then shows a frame image of the video and it does not play the video even with the audio playing.

I might be dump in making a dvd with chapters, so I would appreciate it very much if someone who knows the settings/procedure to give me step/step in making a dvd with chapters. I suspect my problem might be with Avid DVD by Sonic -may be I am not linking the chapters correctly or not following the procedure well. So any help!!

    Thanks

     a couple of suggestions:

When you export Quicktime refernce make sure to select mixdown audio.

Use Sorensen to encode to a m2v and ac3 file and work with the encoded files in Avid DVD

GeorgeD, I have created the m2v and ac3 but when I import the media(m2v and ac3) - my workflow:

I first drag one of the templates from the palette to the menus

Import my media into my media palette, then drag it into titles project

Then I drag my m2v from the titles to playlist

I then import metadata to bring in my chapter points created in avid

Then I select the button attribute and  link them to the chapters.

Now my problem, when I try to simulate the playback, The menu page comes to the screen, so I select the "intro-first chatper buttom" I get a frame from the video which is upside down, then a few seconds, get a green screen, but the audio plays

So what am I doing wrong

Maybe there is a bug in the preview - have you tried making a disc, it might just be OK. Other than that I'd suspect the m2v file and encode it again using different settings. What else... you can try making the most basic disc first, no menus, chapters, etc. just throw the video in and see if that works. You can try a different DVD maker program such TMPEG author. It's a weird bug and you just have to try differnt approaches to see under what circumstances the bug shows up.

    Re: Avid DVD by sonic

I'm still not able to create a dvd with chapters following step/step of this tutorial

    http://www.sfbaaug.org/tutorials/authoring_in_producer.html

After creating the file with chapters in avid, squeezed it, import to avid dvd by sonic, then without  applying the chapters, I try to simulate and my video shows a single frame from the clip that is upside down, but the audio plays. I got the same result when I burnt a copy. Working on MC 3.

BTW I imported the same mpeg2 file to sonic reeldvd that came with my xpress pro, and it plays fine. I just to create chapters with my dvd so I need help with the avid dvd.

Also what is this "ffdshow" video decoder

    Re: Avid DVD by sonic

I found the cause of my problem with avid dvd by sonic. The issue was when I import my mpeg2 for authoring, the simulation/burnt dvd would show only a single frame that was upside down, and even green blank screen.

I noticed that I had a program that popup in the tray whenever I import mpeg2 to avid dvd. The program was "ffdshow", so I deleted it and everything is fine.

I wanted to share this with people who might run into similar problems

Is "ffdshow" an Avid DVD program?

Is Sonic's "DVD It" the same program as Avid DVD?

    Re: Avid DVD by sonic

ffdshow started appearing as I experimented with different software to burn DVD's. I belive it downloaded when I tried the program 'DVD Flick'. After that, I kept getting a message in Sonic if I wanted to use ffdshow. On more investigation, ffdshow seems to be a conversion utility to move media from one format to another. I uninstalled it, as well as DVD Flick, with no damage to Sonic.

I don't know if Sonic is the same, but it looks very similar to DVD It.
