Hello All,
Has any one else noticed the lower headroom on analog audio as compared with the Adrenaline? I see it on both normal outputs and monitor outs. I can't seem to get audio that is hotter than -14 to pass without any audible distortion. I have 2 DX boxes and they both do the same thing. Audio levels are set to 0 on both audio out and monitor out.
Thanks
Mark
Is the hardware calibration set to -14 or -20?

Hi,
What are all the settings you have in the Hardware Calibration pane?

If you play tone do you hear the distortion?

I do not hear distortion playing tone.I have attached an image of my Hardware calibration.
This is curious.
I assume that when you say it clips at -14dBfs, you are getting that value from the audio tool's meters, right? You hear it distort when the meter values goes higher than -14?
There are two other places that can apply gain, the "clip gain", either on the source clip or in the sequence, or "gain automation". However, in either case, or with the "output gain" set in the Audio Project settings, you would see the result of this gain in the meters in the audio tool.
You can also get "gain" if the audio mix, is mixing phase coherent channels into the same output. So, if you have two copies of the same audio on two different tracks, and both are mixed to the same output channel, it will appear as 6dB of gain, but again, this will will be visible in the audio tool's meters. (Does this happen with only one track playing?)
What you don't see in the meters is gain applied by the "volume" slider. This gain applies to the monitor outputs (1/4") and to the Headphone outputs, but only applies to the XLR output is you are using them for 6-channel surround monitoring. If you crank that up you can get clipping when the level exceeds whatever you set it for - if you set it to +12 it can clip when the media plays at -12dBfs.
I know, you said this slider was at zero, but on a whim, try moving it to -1. If that works, move it back to 0 again, and report back.
I am also having audio distortion on the XLR audio output. I have found that if I change the audio port calibration on the analog output to -4.00 from the 1.0 default, it takes care of it. What is the correct level to set this? Is there a manual for the Nitris DX?
Thanks for any help.
You are correct Doug. A bunch of us noticed this in Beta too. We had to drop the calibration from the default level. We reported it to Avid and hopefully the'll have a fix in one of the firmware updates.

I've just now run across this issue - I'm running v3.1.2. No fix yet?
I'm glad to see that others are hearing this distortion also. We noticed it on our Nitris DX Symphony and was trying to determine if we had another problem going on. I have my setting at -20db and use the analog out for monitoring. Most everthing I master is SDI with audio embedded. I'm running 3.1.1

Did this ever get fixed?
thanks

and was this an issue only in Symphony, or also in Media Composer?(will be receiving my nitris dx soon, so want to prepare myself...)
i don't know if it was fixed or not. I stopped using the XLR line out and use the monitor out which doesn't seem to have the problem. We saw it on both Symphony and Media Composer.
I hope it is fixed... I am really going to need those XLR outputs!
