    Re: not really 10bit?

Just to clarify: (putting aside quality questions and the difficulty of other applications writing in 10bit data to a DNxHD file)

1.MC only accepts 10bit video if it comes via either a 16bit TIFF sequence (a file more than twice the size it needs to be with limited meta-data tracking) or 'fast imported' DNxHD 10bit wrapped QuickTime.

    2. All the other 10bit quicktimes and other 10bit files (DPX, CIN etc) can't be imported into MC with out ending up with 8bit video...

Thanks to anyone who can point out my errors or help with this..

    regards

    Michael

I don't think it was an error on your part. I think we all assumed 10 bit stays 10 bit in this instance. It did not help that Avid never (at least AFAIK) clarified it until now.

    Dom

I imported lots of Red footage from 16bit TIFF (approx 2.4x the size) and you have to be impressed with the difference!!!!

Lets hope Avid gets full and true 10bit suport!

What would also be great would be a 10bit codec that had a higher bitrate.

Why?? because if you do a difference matte between 10bit truncated to 8bit, true 8bit and uncompressed you will think 8bit is better..

Since most of the time Avid truncates this makes 8bit better (I first posted on this YEARS AGO).

I will start a new thread about the other quality issues after testing again (no time this week) in v3..

    regards
