Re: Best compression for to export HDV sequence to DVD ???

First of all, export from the Avid as a Quicktime referece.  This creates a file that is as native as possible.

Then take the file to soreson squeeze.  Import the file in sorenson choose to create a MPEG2 video Large.  This will compress the file as MPEG-2 at around 7 megabits per second.  Slightly below average for a DVD, but a good spec.

Then take the file into Avid DVD or any other DVD authoring to add menus and links.

    Or

Go to your bin and select your sequence.  Go under file and choose send-to DVD.  It will do an all-in-one DVD that simply plays your video.  As of Verision 3.0 and higher.

You name it, I've seen it. [view my complete system specs]

HDV does not support QT reference. You will have to make a QT Movie...

You don't really have a choice. Standard def DVDs are MPEG2 compression so you might as well just export as a QT ref and encode to MPEG 2 in the software of your choice.

Rene, you have two threads on the same topic with the same title.  Please don't double post.  If you want to bring your topic to the top again open the existing thread and reply to it with the word "bump".

Multiple posting lessens the chance of getting a response, because the more postings there are the less chance there is of a busy person finding yours.

    Hello Rene:

    1. Do you have Sorenson Squeeze? If so, have you ever used it?

    2. Do you know how to create a video mixdown in Media Composer?

    3. Do you know how to send your Avid timeline to Sorenson Squeeze via Send to>  ?

Yeah I have Sorenson  Squeeze!!.and i know how to use it, but the problem is generate before, when I am exporting the sequence ( like: QT Movie, DNxHD o WMV, or what ever) It's freezing in 82% of the export process....all the times.

The sequence have 6 min , 3 video HDV and SD and 2 audio tracks and 12 GB free in the disc.

Re: Best compression for export HDV sequence to DVD

I've had excellent results by simply using "export HDV" to create an m2t elementary stream, then just bring that into MyDVD.10 - with 16x9 pixels, it plays widescreen on a widescreen TV but letterbox on a 4:3 TV. You can also change the settings in MyDVD to make a center crop 4:3.
