    What would cause audio drift?

Experiencing random... I guess I'd call it an audio drift. 50 minute sequence (documentary) in MCA. Many cuts and effects, video and audio. All video ingested via AirSpeed to Unity. All that video accessed through Interplay Window and dragged to local bins.

The problem: at random times into playback of the finished sequence (10 minutes in; 16 minutes in...) Video continues to play but audio ceases. No error messages come up. No red line at the bottom of the timeline. Then after three or four seconds, audio continues FROM the breaking point. That means audio and video is now 3-4 seconds out of sync with each other.

The result: We bought Interplay six months ago. For the first time since I started on Avids in the mid nineties, I am unable to lay a sequence off to tape. That's bad.

System: MCA 2.8.1 and running MediaNet 5.0.

I know that Interplay/Unity/AirSpeed/MCA/ETC is a complicated system - thus requiring more info than I've provided -  but a few "best ideas" would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: What would cause audio drift?

Now what if we leave Interplay out at first... maybe it is as simple as mixed audio sample rates? I know that this causes trouble sometimes... Also  would it be possible to try it on another system? See if it is media related or system related...

Re: What would cause audio drift?

Had the exact same problem recently, in multiple rooms. The solution was to completely redo the house sync reference signal flow, eliminating all loops and daisy chains and placing a DA in each edit suite to distribute discreet sync signals to all sources and verify proper termination. Ever since we've done that, no more lip sync drifts of any kind.

{EDIT} Menno, good to see you back! Any word about sep?
