Can someone suggest a step by step workflow for ingesting the following hybrid documentary materials?
Have tried for an answer on the MC mac forum and it was suggested I transfer to 24p forum.
We have footage from the following cameras at the listed frame rates:
Panasonic DVX-100A on MiniDV @ 30p, 24p (24p from the DVX is actually
recorded at 30 to the tape)
Panasonic HVX-200 on P2 cards @ native 23.976. (720p)
JVC HD100U on HDV @ 24p (actually 30 on tape)(720p)(this camera is
only compatible with the newer version of FCP and MC3)
JVC GZ-HD7U Handicam on hard drive @ an unknown format because the
other camera guys has the batteries and cables for the camera in NYC
and will be here in a week or so. I think its frame rate is based off
30i or 60i so it should be okay.
16mm film yet to be developed and delivered.
I think the only conflict we have is the HVX.
Is it possible to bring all material in a 30i project -- DV 25 for offline? Or is that not possible with all the material i.e. the 720p at 24p? Can we change the frame rate to 30i? Can we use DNxHd 36 ?
We have a MC 2.8 Adrenaline with G5 quad Tiger OS 10.4.11 and we have just installed a DNxHD board. We do not have MC3 yet but hope to upgrade when term starts.
Thanks you for any advice you can give,
nolas
A common base rate of 30i would be way to go except for your native 720p/23.976 material. That would need to be processed to become 720p/23.976 inside of 59.94. I would look to MXFX Tool from DVFIlm for that functionality.

Michael,
Forgive me for not thanking you for your advice. We are getting Raylite!
Best to you.
Hi Michael, We've gotten Raylight MXFX and have processed the 720p/23.976 .mxf files to become 720p/23.976 inside of 59.94 so that we could work in 30i, but the files wont play in a 30i project, only in 59.94. Am I doing something wrong, or should these files only open in a 59.94 project? Thank you for you help! Marc
Haven't been able to get Raylite to work on our problem--although the Raylite website claims this is possible.
'Phoned the support people and they confirm one cannot convert 23.98 to 30i --and that's a bummer. We propose to move to FCPro and get our money back. Is there no other solution?
Thanks,
MXFX can't convert to standard definition, but this doesn't sound like what you want to do. You need to convert it to a 29.97 frame rate. Take a look at this tutorial I did:
http://community.avid.com/blogs/training/archive/2008/06/01/p2-frame-rate-conversion-for-the-media-composer.aspx
That is what you're looking to do. But instead of all of this, I suggest you shoot the P2 at 720/30pN. This is a 29.97 frame rate and won't require any frame rate conversion. It is the second longest record times next to 24pN. The 30pN P2 clips can be transcoded to SD for the offline and relinked to the P2 cards for the online.
