We currently have 8 MC Soft stations (2.83) sharing media from Unity (4.15). All is well.
Does anyone know what will happen if we upgrade to MC Soft 3.0 or 3.01, but keep the same Unity hardware and software? Will all still be well?
Thanks for any help.
I hope to be able to inform you about tht in a matter of days

A.V.I.D....... Another Version In Development
There are several versions of MN that are compatible. I have a Lanshare LP running with 5.1 clients on MC 3.0 (4 of them) so far so good. We're running the approved version of Unity for that box. (4.2.4) The "filesystem not loaded" bug is lame though. no fix yet. Check the "random disconnects thread on here.
Don't trust the internet...
For MC 3.0, in a 4.1.x unity / lanshare setup, the approved MediaNet software to run is 4.1.6 for the unity filemanager / lanshare and connection manager. Upgrade to 4.1.6 and you will be fine. Its in the 3.0 readme on page 7 under shared storage support.

Hi again,
I'm expecting the 4.1.6 update from avid soon together with MC v3. I'm running mc v3 software only for testing with the 4.1.5 version on my lanshare. All works fine.
I've checked the readme of 4.1.6 and the updates are
Updates were made in Avid Unity MediaNetwork v4.1.6 to allow Final Cut Pro v6.0 and v5.1.x project files to be saved properly to Avid Unity workspaces when the 2 GB file limit is reached. Previously, Macintosh clients that were editing and saving sequences to a shared bin would stop responding. This issue has been corrected.
Your editing application no longer stops responding when exporting an AAF (format) clip at 1:1 (resolution) from an Avid Unity MediaNetwork workspace.
The Windows 2003 server operating system running on the Avid Interplay Engine no longer stops responding when the File Manager performs a failover.
Avid has qualified the ATTO Celerity FC-41EL adapter board for connecting Avid
So if you have interplay or are on mac then you should do the update.
On a side note, it may be interesting for some to know that older versions of Adrenaline and MCSoft cannot function completely on version 5.1 (In my situation, these were PC systems).
I realize this is somewhat off topic, but hopefully it could be helpful to someone who is searching for this kind of information:
Adrenaline 2.2 and MCSoft 2.6 (frankly, I'm assuming anything below 2.7, as 2.7 was new code compared to 2.6, and I know 2.7 works) doesn't have complete functionality with a version 5.1 unity. Connections are fine, playing back certain media is fine (specifically P2 media) however in my tests, DNxHD 60 and above would only play for one second if the Avid had to preread more than 5 seconds.
These avids had no problems when connecting to a 4.1.1-4.1.6 unity, but when connected to a 5.1, we experienced this error;
Exception: DecompStream::FillBuffer FBAssert m_partialFrame ...(so on and so-forth, I don't have the error directly in front of me anymore).
It was basically like an audio underrun or a video overrun. As soon as we upgraded these systems to 2.7 or above, all was fine again.
Anyway, appologies for the off-topic, but it may be helpful when investigating MC Soft -Unity Compatability.
