We just bought a couple of FE FS-5 DTE Recorders and are trying them out. I'm having a some trouble getting the MXF files they create/record into both our MCa and Xpress Pro systems. I called Avid Support and they tried to help, but we've got big projects nearing completion, so when they started asking me to fiddle with Avid Media Files file structure, I excused myself rather than risk losing the ability to mount the media we need, delaying the projects, and raising my coworkers' blood pressures. The person in Avid Support also said something about FS-5 MXF files not being "100% compatible with Avid," but did not explain what she meant.
If I need to, when those projects are safely out of edit, I'll call Avid Support again, but in the mean time...Do any of you know the proper (or even a useful) procedure for getting files from the FS-5 into Avid bins and onto a timeline?
"Import" does not work; when I tried the Media Tool I ended up looking at a list showing every media file on the system, which seems off-puttingly cumbersome when I was trying to bring in three files.
JP, are you dealing with P2 files ? If yes, then check out the tutorial at http://community.avid.com/blogs/training/archive/2008/01/28/302579.aspx
Hope this helps.
Michel
If you have MXF files you can put them into Avid MediaFiles directory. Avid then makes databases and you can see them in Media Tool in order to put them into a bin. It's always safer put them to newly created "numbered directory" eg. \Avid MediaFiles\MXF\999\. If those are only three you can easily find them in Media Tool. Or Make Avid MedaFiles structure on new disk drive. when you select this disk in Media Tool you'll see only newly added media.
