Any way to "lock" a drive in Windows?

I'm getting a 1TB external USB drive which I'm going to use to backup our P2 media and projects off the Unity (in addition to DVD backups of course).  I was wondering if there's any way to lock or password protect the contents of a drive in Windows so that the contents can't be accidentally deleted. I'm not talking about Avid drives or Unity workspaces, but an ordinary external hard drive. Any software solution out that that someone might be using?

There are several software solutions out there - do a GOOGLE search on drive locking etc. and they will pop up. For example, the first one that pops up:

Not saying this is the one that you should use, but one of the many you can consider.

Thanks, I will google this, but I was wondering if there's a tried a tested method that someone might want to recommend.  I have to protect some pretty valuable data on this drive, so I'm not to keen on taking my chances with just anything downloaded from the web.

Under the properties window, select sharing and make it private.
