    MC 3.0 Crash on startup

    Hey All,

I just recently installed MC3.0 on my 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MackBookPro, 4GB RAM. I am running Leopard 10.5.2. I went thru the whole install/restart thing and now when I start up AVID I get a Segmentation Fault error and then it force quits.

    Anyone, anyone?

Thanks for all your help, whoever you may be,

    Sean

Re: MC 3.0 Crash on startup

If anyone knows where to point me to get the answer I need that would be great. I can't use AVID MC 3.0 until I get this figured out and I don't want to have to resort to using FCP 6.

    Thanks.

Re: MC 3.0 Crash on startup

Hi anomaly_7, You indicated that you have Leopard 5.2 running MC 3.0, I think 10.5.3 is recommended for this version of Avid MC. Also you don't indicate the QT version which should be 7.4.5 as well.

I would have a look a Avid specifications for Leopard and QT and make sure you are running the recommended versions first. Then if there is still a problem some of the forum users may be able to help.

Don't forget to full out all your system specs. including any external hardware etc in your profile.

Re: MC 3.0 Crash on startup

OK, here goes...this is my problem.

System Specs are as follows: 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, 4GB RAM. I am running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.3. I recently upgraded to MC 3.0. Once installed, MC will not start up. It keeps giving me a segmentation fault error.

What I did: Uninstall/Reinstall. Marianna was kind enough to give me an alternate installer from AVID's ftp site. I installed that. I tried calling Tech Support but they accidentally hung up on me and then when I tried to get thru it was after 7PM EST and everyone went home. I was told my dongle is good, so no need for a new versioner. I repaired my permissions.

I have nothing connected to this CPU. No drives, flash memory, nothing. I don't know what else to say.

Re: MC 3.0 Crash on startup

So after several unsuccessful tries I contacted support and this is what they said: Hello Sean, It took a lot of time to research the problem and to talk with the engineers and these are the things that you need to try The thing is to try uninstalling the Caption plug-in: 1. control click on the AvidMediaComposer application 2. Choose Show Package Contents 3. Open the Contents > SharedSupport > AVX2_Plug-Ins folder 4. Drag Caption.avx out of the package 5. Launch AvidMediaComposer This should run without the segmentation fault... It seems that a poorly created font in the OS is conflicting with an AVX plugin. if this doesn't work: -Do you have a Mojo, Mojo SDI or Adrenaline attached to this system? Or any FW based drives or deck even? If so, there is a bug that can cause this error when using MC 3 and running OSX Leopard. Unhook any FW devices and see if the error continues. -This error WILL happen if you have not completely uninstalled EVERYTHING from an earlier version of the Avid software on this CPU. It can also happen if you uprade the OS to Leopard instead of doing a clean install. Could either of these be the case? If so, do an archive and install of the OS and then do a clean install of 3.0. Just use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your drive over to an external FW drive, then, when you get Avid working, you can use the File Transfer Manager to restore your CPU's Users and applications very easily. Let me know if the problem is fixed. Greetings, Costin AVID Support Just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else experiences this. Sean
