    avid dvd - problems

I have a problem trying to create a dvd. I have followed all the tutorial and everything seems ok except when I imported my mpeg 2 file which has filze size of 3.9GB and my AC3 audio is 168MB. When I dropped the video into the timeline in "avid dvd by sonic", the remaining GB comment at the lower left coner under the timeline shows red with the message "-3.48GB remaining". I have selected DVD5(4.7GB)

Did I miss something or how do I get avid dvd to know that my file size is not even up to 4.7

    Re: avid dvd - problems

    I recreated the same project again, and now it seems to fit, but when I tried to burn disc. I get this error;

Internal software error: vobulator\blockplanner\blockplanner.cpp line 234-2

    Found PG with no video

    Any idea

    Thanks

I can't help with the second error message, but just so you know. . .

You don't truly get 4.7GB of space for your DVD video projects. You really max out at about4.3 GB - sometimes less, depending on the menu files and complexity.

So if your MPEG2 content exceed 4.3GB, think about more compression. There's a handy calculator for this stuff - http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm.

MCA 2.8.3 on Dell 490 • 4GB Ram • Quadro FX3500 Driver 6.14.10.9185 • Avid rs146 x 2 striped as one • 2 internal 500 GB SATA drives. Edit monitor: Sony... [view my complete system specs]

    Re: avid dvd - problems

Hagi said the video file was 3.9 GB in size, so it should fit, even adding the AC3 audio part. But maybe your software wants to store the clip at a higher bitrate (i don't use dvdit, so i can only guess)? Usually dvds are created at about 6 mbit/s, allowing for approx. 2 hours film on a standard 4.7 gb DVD5. You can of course encode the source at higher or lower bitrates, and unless you exceed 9 mbit/s chances are good the dvd will play in most players; i don't know how low you can go, i'd guess anything below 2.5 mbit/s will cause trouble.

What bitrate was your file encoded at? How long is it, in minutes?

A second guess: AC3 audio takes significantly less space than pcm audio data, maybe your software wants to convert the audio track, or even wants to create more than one?

Looking at the "-3.48 GB remaining": is there a chance you dropped the same file twice into the project? 3.5 GB is almost exactly what's missing if you try to fit 2 x 3.9 GB on a disc that can hold only 4.3 GB...

Thanks Macjaeger, I recreated a new project and everything seems to fit ok, but when I tried to burn, I get an error indicating PG no video....

So now that is my concern

    Re: avid dvd - problems

Hmm, now that is a problem with dvdit itself - i can't comment on that, because i don't use that programm. But I'm sure others here can, if you tell a little more about the layout of your dvd. Is it "just one title", or are there any menus involved? Have you selected a "play first" title (don't know how it's called in dvdit, i mean the title that is played before the menu is shown)?

I recall seeing that same error message "PG no video" in another thread not long ago, maybe using the search function will help you find a solution to this particular problem.

    Good Luck!

    Re: avid dvd - problems

    hagi:

I am still having the same problem, I have selected dvd-5, but used GB on the timeline shows 7.8(twice the video file), when I right-click to get the property, my file is only 3.9GB, so why am I geting twice the video in my timeline if I have only one video in the timeline, and the "titles" window also shows one video file.

    Any help!!!
