    Sorenson Squeeze

Is sorenson squeeze compression suite version 4.3.302.4, compatible with avid media composer 2.8??

And does it do BOTH flash and MPEG4 encoding for avid?

If so, what are all the export settings I need to use in avid before compressing in squeeze?

    Re: Sorenson Squeeze

    Hi,

    ublue:
what are all the export settings I need to use in avid before compressing in squeeze?

You don't have to do anything special.  Just export a Quicktime Reference movie from Media Composer, and open it up in Squeeze.

As for the specific capability questions, someone else will have to chime in, because I'm not in front of a machine at the moment.

    good luck,

Export a QT Ref file. Use the Mastering settings in Avid's QT Ref window to ensure FX are rendered.

Yes it can do both Flash and MPEG4.

Tip: If you have a mixed media timeline (HDV, DV, 1:1, etc) you should do a video mixdown. QT and Squeeze don't behave well when dealing with QTRef files that have mixed formatas.

There is no 'compatibility' factor per se because MC does not directly access Squeeze. And vice-versa. They interact via Quicktime files and codecs.

Real answer is no answer. But in short, yes they work fine together assuming you have QT player installed and working.

    Dom Q. Silverio:
If you have a mixed media timeline (HDV, DV, 1:1, etc) you should do a video mixdown. QT and Squeeze don't behave well when dealing with QTRef files that have mixed formatas.

MC can't create QT reference files when HDV is involved (qt ref doesn't understand long gop formats). You'll always have to transcode the hdv material first or render your sequence to some intermediate format :-(

You are correct. If QT supported HDV then MC would not have a problem with it as MC supports HDV natively.

is the procoder also compatible with avid mc 2.8?

which one is cheaper (i don't need the latest version)...and where the heck do you buy this software!!!

Which is better depends on your needs. Squeeze is cheaper because it is free with your XPro/MC software (it is bundled with it).

Where to buy it - all over the place. Just Google it.

    Re: Sorenson Squeeze

Is this really still the case?  I have to do a video mixdown in order to get Squeeze to read my QT REF files?  I have a timeline with DV25 and 2:1 media.  When I export the QT REF and try to import it into Squeeze... Squeeze will quit out with an error message.  I have MC 3.0 and Squeeze 5.0.2.8.

    Can anyone help?

    thanks,

Have you tried the Safe Mode / GDI Only trick (search forum)?

But yeah, there different characteristics of DV25 and 2:1 can cause problems for you.
