Avid released today, July 23, 2008, the following editors:

·         Avid Media Composer® version 2.8.4

·         Avid NewsCutter® version 6.8.4

·         Avid Symphony™ Nitris version 1.8.4

·         Avid Xpress® Pro version 5.8.4

The editors are located on avid.com in the “Additional Support Updates” area and on the Download Center.

ReadMe

Fixes and added support in the x.8.4 release vary by product.  For details on what was fixed or added to the x.8.4 editors, please reference the ReadMe documentation for each individual editing system found on the Avid Knowledge Base. The ReadMe documents have been posted already in support of the editor availability.

Dongle information
A dongle update is not needed to install version x.8.4 on editing systems with version x.7.x installed.

Interplay Support

This release of the Windows version of the editing application has been qualified in an Avid Interplay™ 1.2.4 environment. Macintosh editing applications are not supported in an Avid Interplay environment.

Release

This is the last released planned for x.8.x editor products.

Hey, I just downloaded the 2.8.4 updater and it won't install. I get the error "AvidMediaComposer_2 - no mountable file systems."

Any idea as to why?  I try with the dongle in and not in...no difference.  I am currently running MC 2.8.0 on a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz.

Sounds like a corrupt download.

Try grabbing it again, maybe with a different browser.

The files on the Server are incomplete.

Filesize is only 242 MB for the Mac and 283 MB for the PC Version.

The size is the same as yesterday (23.) so it could be a corrupt upload to the Server.

It IS an incomplete download.  Will that be rectified?  Also, is there a way to view the read me file without having to download the full program, which can't be downloaded,  to see what problems 2.8.4 is addressing?  I can't seem to find it in the knowledge base.

 The installers were tested thoroughly before we made them live. They should be complete. It is not unusual for Mac's installer files to be smaler than the PC. Are you using the link I provided? Could you cut and paste the exact link you are using so I can check this out?

Dowloaded the DMG (562.3Mb) and upgraded from 2.8.3 to 2.8.4 very smoothly.
