    Bad System Call error-AudioSuite

    Hi, all!

This problem started happening before an upgrade, and we were secretly hoping it would be fixed with the upgrade. Alas, we are not that fortunate.

Here's the issue- When I attempt to launch the AudioSuite tool to do a little compression magic, I am met with a crash.

The error I receive is: Bas System Call in Thread "Main Thread" at address 0xbffd300.

After I click whatever option there is on the first error message to dismiss it, I receive a second similar message before the option to close the application or report to Apple pops up. (This Mac is not on the internet, so a report is tougher to get in than under normal circumstances.) That second error reads: Illegal Instruction in thread "Main Thread" at address 0xbffd300

This happens while AudioSuite is loading. The status bar reads: Loading plug-ins:Avid_Application_Plugin %88

I'm a freelancer working on this client's Avid, so I'm not completely "at one" with the system. I wish I could offer more info on the recent upgrade, but I was not involved.

The system is currently running Media Composer v. 2.8.0 on a 2.7 GHz PowerMac G5. It's OS version is 10.4.8.

Any insight here, or is this a job for 1-800-800-Avid? I'm pretty sure there is a valid contract at this location. I just don't necessarily want to sit on the phone waiting to find out it's a mind-numbingly easy fix I could do....y'all know that feeling!!

    thanks!

This may be a Digidesign driver issue. Here's a link for downloading Digidesign drivers for Media Composer.

     Thanks, Larry.

That link goes to a digidesign page that says: No information was found in this section for the product you selected.

I'll poke around a little bit between my logging duties today and see if anything looks promising.

If anyone else is familiar with this issue, please feel free to chime in!

    Thanks!

Strange. That link was working two days ago. I'll poke around some more as well.

    Re: Bad System Call error-AudioSuite

I'd suggest you uninstall Avid, clean any avid related files, reboot then re-install.  The chances are this will resolve the problem.

    So here are the steps:

    • Uninstall MC, and anything else installed with that version of Avid (EDL manager etc.) (run all the uninstallers in Applications/Avid_Uninstallers)
    • Now: in Library/Application Support/Avid/ remove any files that are left (you can leave the plugins installed in AVX2_Plugins)
    • Then go to /Library/Application Support/Digidesign and remove what is in there (any extra plugins installed will be in Plug-ins - copy any client installed 3rd party plugins somewhere - otherwise get rid of the lot)
    • Then go to /Library/Frameworks and delete the following if they are present -most are removed by the uninstaller but not all (be careful here...)
    • AvidVDM.framework
    • DAE.framework
    • DigidesignFWDriver.framework
    • DigidesignUSBDriver.framework
    • DigiMachOServices.framwork
    • DigiPlatformSupport.framework
    • DigiPlugInHelper.framework
    • DigiStreamManager.framework
    • DigiStudioManager.framework
    • lavaFlow.framework
    • Then go to /Library/StartupItems and get rid of DigidesignLoader and Digidesign Mbox 2
    • Then last of all go to /Library/Receipts and get rid of all receipts starting with Avid
    • Then *reboot*.  This is important as some of the files may have been loaded and this guarantees that you're starting afresh.
    • Then reinstall.

I've had this problem in the past and this is how I resolved it.  (Avid really needs to make their uninstallers do their job properly - which isn't the case at the moment)
