I have a 13 part series on the go.
In the EP 1 Project I have created several bins that contain clips linked to media for the rest of the series eg. Music, Stings, Gfx and precomposed seqs etc...
I have imported masses of Sound effects then painstakenly gone through each one reducing the imported audio file by -11 or -15db depending on the file. (I am talking litereally hundredreds of SFX)
I then setup most if not all of the precomposed Seqs which later were inserted into my programs through-out the series.
I am accessing the bins in EP one by 'File/open bin' within the next ep.
EG ep 3 I will open bin on ep one for music, gfx, sfx, and precomposed
But on some occasions the Sound effect, music etc that are on my master timeline suddenly reset to 0db?
It doesnt seem to have any reason for happeneing... it just does.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent this and does anyone know a rapid way of resetting the audio levels across a bin containing hundreds of clips?
I am running Media Composer adrenaline v2.8 on a HP workstaion xw8000, 2x XEON 2.8GHz CPU and 2GB ram, windows xp SP 2
Not at my Avid right now to verify this, but I believe you can highlight all clips in a bin and then make adjustments on the audio mixer tool that will apply to all. You may need to be in the script view for this to work.

OH excellent!
Ill try that asap
If you find yourself in front of the avid can you type up a work flow for that?
I have never used the SCRIPT mode before
John
I am now at the end of cutting a large series in Multi-cam mode and I have had some funny audio issues.
I have 13 eps and in the first ep there are about 6 bins that I use across the other eps in the series. eg, graphics, music, sound effects precomposed etc...
My work flow is this
1- Import sound effects in to the Master Sound effects bin (or music into the music bin)
2- Reduce the clip(s) audio to -15VU before auditioning the clip
3- color all clips in the bin that have been auditioned and delete unwanted clips
4- Place the selected effect or music track on a Sub-sequence time line or directly into the episode master time line and mix the audio for that portion... ie reduce the effects level until comfortable.
My question is this :-
Has anyone discovered that clips in the original bin,SOMETIMES reset to 0VU? AND/OR they reset on the time line to 0VU but are still -15,-11 or -7 in their bin and or in their sub-sequence?
This means that despite spending time premixing sequences I find some need to be remixed during the edit. Very frustrating as time is tight.
Please help.. this is driving me crazy
John:
I've never experienced random audio re-sets like you describe, but usually when toolsets behave erratically, it's because site settings have become corrupted. You can quit the app, and in the settings folder inside the Avid Media Composer folder delete the following files: MC State, Site_Settings, Site_Attributes. On re-launch the system will detect the missing files and build new ones. See if that helps.
And to adjust an entire bin of clip audio levels at one time, go into script mode (and this is critical) NOW USE ONLY THE KEYBOARD. Do not load any clips in the monitor and use composer tools. Back to the keyboard - select all (CTRL + A) Mark clip (T) Adjust level on audio mixer as desired. Hit enter. Now, obviously, here you will need to have listened to the clips beforehand and decided on the level you want, since you won't be able to listen to all clips simultaneously.
Larry !
Thanks for everything!
I am back at work tomorrow and I'll try this out... could save me loads of time

You're quite welcome, John. At least this way, you can global the approximate levels on all selected clips. This procedure also works for placing in and out marks on multiple clips simultaneously. Like when you have a series of imported still images you want to transition between. Again, the important thing is to only use the keyboard.
Hey Larry
i have just tried this on my Mc 2.8.0 at home.. which is slightly different from work
Can I clarify ... I have opened a bin with only audio clips
there are curently no Timelines in the project (to keep it simple)
i have the bin open and the Audio mixing tool open.
in the bin Mode I select sript mode
I now only use the keyboard
Press CTRL +A and the bin clips are now selected...
this is where I seem to go off track
Pressing T seems to make no diff
and the only way I can adjust the audio mixing tool is with the use of my mouse?
john
Actually, the "T" command is the one I use for the visual technique, it may not be necessary here, and yes when you use it, it actually marks the beginning and end of each clip in its entirety in one stroke, so in script mode what it does is invisible - remember - no clips loaded in the source window, where you would see that change take place.
As for the audio mixer, you can click on the numerical db field in any channel and enter a specific db number, you don't have to use the mouse.
Larry you da man
cheers
