    MC3.0 Color Bugs

Has anyone been experiencing bugs with the CC tool in MC3.0.

I migrated a project that was originally on PC running MC2.8.3 across to a Mac running MC3.0 and now get an error when I try to color correct a clip to any shot in my sequences. I had already done the obvious steps like create a new user in MC3 and also tried creating a new project and copying bins into a new MC3 created project.

Two distinct errors happen: when running the CC tool out of a new MC3 created project I get this error "SFPlayConsumer:Execute Timeout" and I can't edit or do anything as the screens lock up and my nitris bob stops sending vid signal to external monitor.

When I open an existing MC2.8.3 Project  it is more workable where I get this error "Hagrid base: Err..........." (see console attachment) but I can at least apply a color correction but the Avid takes about 30 secs to update and the nitris bob flashes between black and the video signal.

When i'm editing in full quality the sequences are unusable and the avid locks up, when working in green/yellow mode I can atleast keep on editing with the same errors appearing but without the Avid freezing over. Any ideas out there from DX folks like Avid, Todd or Blackdog would be muchly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Have you run the Nitris hardware updater?  It's located in the utilities folder.  If the hardware appears to be up to date, I'd then run the Hardware diagnostics loopback tests on it.  Something is not right at all.  What OS, what kind of storage and what type of Mac?

Thanks for the quick response Todd, I have run the DX Updater and it confirms that the hardware is up to date.

Hardware wise I'm running a new Harpertown Dual Quad 3.0GHz with the PCI-e card Avid Host in the top slot (slot 4) and am running a 3TB 4 drive raid with the e-sata interface in the second from the top (slot 3). 10Gb Ram.

Software wise am running OS10.5.4 with Quicktime pro version 7.5 and MC3.0.

Everything otherwise is really quick and massively improved on Adrenaline speeds.

Will do the loopback tests and report back.

    Thanks for your help,

    Matt

Ok so I did the loopback tests and i'm getting 'failure signal not locked' on a few but I assume this is because I'm not running any reference into the bob. I assume this is fine as I'm purely editing at the moment and not digitizing or outputing on this machine so that would negate the need for reference? See attached.

    Thanks,

I think you need to try this with ref hooked up... even if only to test it.  You gotta rule out that factor, because despite your sound logic on why ref isn't needed, it is so often the cause of bizzare issues.

The Harpertown pci-e slots are different than the older Clovers.  Slot 1 is a double-wide x16 PCIe 2.0 slot, for the graphics card. Slot 2 is another x16 PCIe 2.0 slot. 3 and 4 support x4 PCIe. The original Mac Pro allowed users to configure the speed of each slot, but with only one x16 slot max, an ability that is absent in thie Harpers.

So if I have my slots right... I'm not in front of my Avid, so bear with me... you are not utilizing the fastest slot on the machine for your storage.  I believe you have the Avid host card in the correct slot, but the storage seems to be getting choked.  Is that right or not?

Thanks for the info Todd. I have my pci-e for the drive in Slot 3 as per config specs from the manufacturer, G-Tech. I did just try and swap to slot 2 with no change in Avid or performance difference so i'd say the card is capped at 4x, hence slot 3.

So everything appears to be normal config wise. I'm running the qualfied nvidia 8800GT as well. Check out this screen shot that appears in my composer window when in CC mode.

Msg "Card2:decode:FrameTypeErr". Very strange, dodgy GPU in Video card perhaps or possible drivers?

    Thanks

Hi further to my earlier problems I can't render timewarps or create motion effects as I get the same error. I'm midway through cutting a film with massive ramifications if I don't get this sorted quickly.

Any more insight would be a really big help,

OK... let's isolate the issue.  Disconnect the Nitris from the CPU by physically removing the pci-e cable.  Then boot in MC soft mode.  Do the issues persist?  If not, then the issue is obviously with the Nitris.  I'd then re-seat the pci-e card and cable on both ends.  If it persists still, then I'd call Avid and get them to help you or replace the box.  If the issue persists even without the Nitris, then I'd uninstall and re-install the MC software.  If it persists after that, I'd wipe the entire HD and the re-install the OS and then the MC software.  Remember to back up the projects!  QT 7.4.5 is the proper QT version, so do not go to 7.5 the second go round.  I doubt QT would cause this, but it is a minor variable.

Thanks again Todd, I disconnected the DX and ran MC as soft and the problem went away.

After re-seating the pci and reconnecting cables MC with DX has the numerous errors again so the problem is definitely somehow related to the bob. The errors have something to do with the hagrid board in the bob which must be the onboard effects processing unit. So is the best bet to call Teuk's and do they have 24hr support or is it a case of waiting till monday US time?

I appreciate your help very much on this Todd,

    Thanks

    Hi Matt,

Sorry to butt in here but I really think you need to call Avid support on this one. Something is wrong with your hardware config. Since it's this new, I would let them sort it.

Yup... gotta agree... we've exaughsted all the ideas I've got.  The box is not right and given it's age, let Avid have it back and get you a new one.

    Re: MC3.0 Color Bugs

Thanks Todd and Blackdog, my Avid dealer has given me a temporary replacement bob which I swapped over to and the problem still persists. I've downgraded the version of Quicktime to the approved 7.4.5 and the next step is to downgrade the OS 10.5.3, does anyone no an easier way to rollback this back?

Also I'm hoping you guys can pass this thread onto Avid direct as its not really something that can easily dealt with over the phone as all the info is right here for the Avid software engineers.

Fortunately this is a problem that I can work around for perhaps a week if necessary. The big issues are:

a)Color Tool flashes between SRC and black when applying a grade and I get the hagrid error see screen shot above

b)Green mode (Full Quality Playback and Full Quality 10bit) return "SFPlayConsumer:Execute TIMEOUT" error. The only way to edit without errors is in green/yellow mode.

I know this beyond the boards now but if someone from Avid can help me out as it is defintely software related. I'm thinkng the chances of two bad DX Nitris bob's is highly unlikely.

    Thanks,

    Matt

You replaced the pci-e card and the cable too right?
