We're looking at HD aquisition systems and I have a simple question about the Sony XDcam. Has anyone used the PDWU-1 disk player? I know it was initially only a playback device, but they were going to update it to allow writing to the disk. Has this happened? I'd like to be able to import from the disk and write the final edit back to the disk?

Seems it works with OSX and XP but they are having trouble with Vista. (They are not in the mood to share the current version with all of us smart enough to ignore Vista. )
we have a pdw-u1. the update from sony isn't out jet. it should arrive in october. we have the problem, that XDCAM HD 422 with 50MBit/sec is not supporte by Avid jet. the other resolutions should be supported. Except from that, the workflow is quit simple. you insert the disc, import the proxy media, start editing. then you batch capture the hires media and master your dvd or blue-ray disc. so let's wait and see, 'til the sony update comes along and then we'll try to export a sequence back to the disc.
hope this helps you a little bit.

edit: andrew was quicker, but our reseller told us in march, that the update will come in oct.
Here's an event on the West coast next week that may shed some light (or not) on 50Mb integration.

I'm not on the West coast so I won't be attending. If somebody makes it to the event please ask about 50 Mb integration.
We managed to get the 50 MBit/sec thing working. Now the write-back-support seems to be the last issue.
Regards Moses
How did you get it working?
