Hi guys i just got my self new PC which i paid about 5000 just for editing, now which external hard drive do i go with? i am shooting for Seagate FreeAgent Pro 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA / FireWire External Hard Drive link or lacie but i hear some bad things about lacie and what is the best conection to conect HD usb firewire what does avid recomends. What should i look when i am buying a HD for editing.
Thanks guys
I'm still shopping around myself, but based on research, I'd getting something with an eSATA connection (lots of bandwidth, greater room for expansion). Lots of people seem to be happy with the drives from G-Tech (I'm looking at the G-Speed ES myself...).
Good luck!

What about editing HDdv is it up to HD or video card when it comes uncompressed HDdv or HD. And how would you conect external HD eSATA connection,?
Thanks
The hard drive is certainly a component people forget about when trying to edit HD - the speed you need depends on how much you're expecting to edit. For example, if you are ediitng DVCPRO HD, one stream at full quality is 12.5 megabytes a second. For mutiple steams, you'd obviously need more than that. As far as graphics cards go, you should make sure you have an Avid approved nVidia Quadro FX card before trying to edit HD.
For eSATA, you'd need an eSATA card for your computer. The eSATA drives from G-Tech offer compatiple eSATA cards for your computer.
Hope this helps.
P.S. You should also publish your system specs in your profile.
