First of all I'm not making conspiracy theories and wild accusations. I hope we agree on that. I agree with you that people starting such rumours are not constructive to the discussion.

You write It's probably a very simple one.

That's what am asking for...that simple reason. If it's so simple please inform us. If you can't can AVID please do so? Is that too much to ask?

Saying that it's a simple reason and then when being asked "what reason" starting to hide behind a NDA is not right. sorry.

Seriously, let it go. I have not asked for the reason for the simple fact that I don't need to know. What I know is the folks who code this stuff for a living and, knowing the people, I know that if it were possible, it would be done. It's something we've all batted around for going on 8 years now. I've come to accept that it's not happening soon (now watch, as soon as I say that, it'll be in the next release).

If you know anything about product or feature development programs within a large multi-national company, you know that there are reasons for everything and not all of them make sense (actually very few do) so, my take on it is, if avid hasn't implemented this codec by now, they aren't going to soon. So, take that for what you will. I've told you how I feel, I've given you my impressions as to why I believe it's not there yet and tried to explain a little of Avid's design process to give you a better idea what's going on. If that's not enough, then it's all I can do and I'm pretty much done here.

Whether the reason makes sense or not, wouldn't it be good to at least get an offical response from engineering? This might go some way towards those affected understanding the thinking behind what they see as injustice. And might shoot this thread in the head.

WOW - this thread is out of hand. A simple feature request. A simple dissent. Then all these personal attacks. Some conspiracy. Then some dude who posted for the first time trying to troll and flame. Wow. Just agree to disagree.

Close this thread already. Only thing left is Godwin's Law.

Everyone please keep in mind that BLKDOG, who is probably the single most knowledgeable and helpful participant in this Forum is also a moderator, which means that he has the authority to lock this thread to stop replies at any time, yet he has chosen not to do that. That speaks volumes about his sense of fairness, given some of the vitriolic words hurled his way in this thread.

Larry, I can't agree more with you that BLKDOG's integrety is not in doubt. How much I disagree with him in this case does not change that in any way. BLKDOG keep up the good work!!!!!

I do ask all posters to respect BLKDOG's effort that he has made and also makes in this thread. The simple fact that he responds to my posts shows he takes this issue serious. Not removing this thread also shows that.

BLKDOG I disagree in principal with you but I do want to thank you for your time.

I think the time has come to close the thread as we said it all. Only a statement by an Avid represenative could take the subject further.

    jveekeres:

    BLKDOG,

People like silver101 prove that, although you have a point Mpeg2 SD being on the low side of the quality spectrum, the request for its support is a logical one. Whant should be supported and what not we will always have disagreements on in this forum, but I think avid would do many many may users a great favor by also expanding on the lower side of the Mpeg2 spectrum.

I, and this is my personal interpretation of professional, is that flexibility is a big part and will become bigger part of being professional. To stick with workarounds, however easy, is NOT!

This is were this thread should have stopped, this is the answer thank you BLKDOG for the mature reply. Comming from Fast Silver 15 years ago and having to invest in Avid not so long ago as they bought and ate my software, I have more accolades to Avid and it's people than complains.

Mpeg2 will die; like good television did when reality became a format, it will be around though for a while, still as good television gets re-broadcasted years after the making. Hopefully Avid sees its new clientelle that buys into its systems as your software is now cheaper, we might have different needs than your current clients.

As the topic creator of this post I urge you to let it go into the Archive with 201 replies.

    Hi all,

As this thread has pretty much run its course, and everyone has had ample opportunity to air their views multiple times, I agree with those who are calling for it to be shut down.

    Thread locked.

    good luck,
