Ok, so strange...whne ever I hit the "A" key or the "S" key not only do I go to the edit (desired effect) but I also get put in to trim mode..?? Why is this? I checked my keyboard map as well and the command palette but still strange behavior...
OK did a search and figured it out. youhave to map the FFW and the RRW buttons to A and S...interesting I dont ever remember doing that before but I did have express pro HD before so maybe it was different...anywho all figured out.
Welcome to the BIG boys world of MC.
Here we trim as we go.........

Uh, ok. What if we don't want to trim or don't need to. Do I need to put on a diaper if I just want to jump edit points?

Then you should be using a Symphony! Those guys and gals get it right the first time, every time!
Michael.
it would seem if you "got it right the first time" you would not need trim....trim is for editors who cant make the "cut" right the first time...

I feel like a broken record with this stuff...
XpressPro and NewsCutter do not enter Trim Mode when you advance to the Prev/Next Edit. MC does. If you don't want it to enter Trim on MC, then you must map RW/FF to those keys instead.

I tried that and all that did was turn the A & S keys into RW and FF, but I already have that with the J & S keys.
I'm wondering if I did this wrong somehow. It's not the biggest deal, but turning off trim the 9 times out of 10 that I don't need it is getting pretty annoying.

I can't afford Symphony

Most of the time I don't use the snap to edit key to trim, I use it to quickly add Audio dissolves to soundbite cuts, or sync graphics and transitions on upper tracks to one side of a video clip on a lower track.

So wait, you have J&S mapped to RW/FF? What's the issue then?
edit: Oh, I think I understand what you're saying... J is REVERSE PLAY and can be ramped to scrub by multiple taps of the button. L is FORWARD PLAY and also can be ramped with multitap.
The RW/FF keys/functions don't "scrub" backwards/forwards, but rather jump between edit points. Just as Go To Previous/Next Edit does , but in MC it doesn't enter Trim mode each time.
I leave my A and S keys alone and have mapped FF/REW elsewhere on the keyboard, so I have the option of either function as I need them. And Kenton is right, this is normal behavior for Media Composer.

I have mapped FF/REW to A and S, but shift A and S goes to next or previous edit and enters trim mode....hey, works for me :-)
Mark
I do the same, and have done for a very long time (pre Xpress). Other shifted functions I use are shift-B for segment overwrite, shift-V for segment splice, shift-up arrow and shift-down arrow for less detail and more detail on the timeline and shift-left arrow and -right arrow for field stepping.
There are others, but those are the shifted functions that I use most. And of course shifted numeric keys for track selection.
