I dont know about MC 3 but I've been using 2.8 but haven't been able to import them at all. I get an error saying that they aren't supported for import.
I've had to run the files through something like Sony Vegas and convert them to MXF. And the Import time depends on the file size. But it's pretty fast.
have basically the same shooting package and just shot a three day set of interviews using the dr-hd100's QT file setting (24p). I did this b/c at the least i knew i could import the resulting qt file into fcp and my mc 3.0 was held up in shipping due to the july 4th holiday.
MC3 won't use the qt codec - all you get is the audio and a white screen. I ended up pulling .m2t files from the qt file using cineform and they imported in just fine. Don't seem to have any audio drift w/ these files (like many people are reporting). However, i had a dp shoot some broll w/ this camera earlier in the year, and we had to use tape (HDV 720p, 24p). Hearing all the trouble everyone else had digitizing this type of footage via avid and wanting a file to archive (w/ out avid's mxf fingerprint) i decided to pull an m2t from the tape using cineform (HD link) and then import, archiving the m2t for later use. using this workflow, i did notice a half second or so of audio drift toward the end of the file (roughly an hour of footage, in one file). i'm pulling an m2t from the second 720p HDV tape i have, but this time and having cineform split the scenes into seperate files in hopes that it will get rid of the audio drift.
haven't shot to the dr-hd100 directly w/ m2t files. they should pull right in, but the time code setting on the dr-hd100 is what i question. which to use? does it matter? it says it does in the manual, but that things half accurate at best. interested to hear results.
footage looks great but these work arounds are a pain in the pocket book. how can preimer and vegas get this right and avid look like the one kind in class that can't color inside the lines? they've own liquid and it seems to handle this format just fine - but not media composer? hoping for an update soon.
Avid vorsened the capability of import the M2T files in recent versions, as I tested.
Unfortunately when you convert M2T to MXF in Vegas the data gets reencoded and not only rewrapped as if you choose the same MPEG2 format. I would suggest to output files from any NLE to QT using Avid codec and then fastimport them to Avid. The quality loss wouldn't be that much.
Strange - I have no difficulty importing m2t files into an HDV project with MC 3.0 or 2.8.

Hi- just wondering if this is a 25p vs 30 issue?
I'm about to be working with a jvc prohd camera on a PAL 720 25p job, and looking at getting MC3.
I can confirm no luck with MC2.7 and firewire import of this footage.
Anyone else in this situation, who can confirm MC3 will import the m2t files from a firestore? Or even better, from tape via firewire?
This isn't available yet - but it might make the job easier in the near future...

"Strange - I have no difficulty importing m2t files into an HDV project with MC 3.0 or 2.8."
Is that 1080 or 720 (specifically from the JVC line of HD pro series)?

1080 - haven't tried 720 and have no JVC.

....I shoot with the a Canon XL H1 & Firestore FS-4 HD. I shoot @ 1080i 60 (NTSC Land) and record straight to Firestore, then I am able to fast import into MC 3.0 without issue. The resulting files are in perfect sync and look just like an HDV tape captured manually into the system.
....However, if I shoot with tape & firestore simultaneously, then I run into some serious errors with the resulting M2t files recorded onto the firestore. Those errors are................
1. Each shot begins in sync, but then suddenly jumps and stutters, then goes readically out of sync.
2. Attempting to import the firestore M2t files into MC 3.0 results with an aborted import and an error dialogue box which reads as follows.............
3.Playback of these firestore files, once you manage to get them into your system results in the following playback hault and error dialogue box...........
The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
Sorry for that messed up post. I don't know why it looks like that (??) I couldn't add the additional information at the end or edit it properly, so here's the rest of the info.........
If I shoot just to firestore only all is well. If I shoot to tape only, then manual capture from camera works well and plays back fine. If I attempt to simul - shoot with both tape and firestore, then the resulting firsetore M2t files are corrupt and useless and won't import or play in MC 3.0 properly, but the tape is fine and useable. I suspect a setting in the XL H1 must be turned off, but I haven't been able to conduct a test with more tape and FS yet. I have followed the setting instructions in the Firestore manual, but it doesn't help. Shooting tapeless with the FS works perfectly and imports and plays fine in Avid MC 3.0
