    Batch Import P2 files?

Is there anyway to bring more than one P2 contents folder in at a time?

in FCP you can select the conatining folder and it will bring in all the clips within the contents folders that are inside?

I'm on 2.7.2 but would be happy to upgrade to get this time saving functionality.

    Thanks

Avid reference the MXF metadata and access the footage via the contents folder.

You could drag the mxf files to the avid media files folder on the drive, then go through the media tool (under tools) and select all drives and all projects.  That will bring in your P2 files, but that breaks the import function that may be valuable later.

Yeah I used to do tat before p2 import was available  but it takes just as much time and it messes up your P2 footage archive.

    Thanks though

    Re: Batch Import P2 files?

If you need to do this to support spanned P2 cards there is a workaround.

Copy the CONTENTS folder from each card into their own individual folders on your PC.  You should end up with structures like D:\P2_1\CONTENTS\..., D:\P2_2\CONTENTS\... and so on.  Then in the Start menu click on the "Run" box and type (without the quotes) "subst X: D:\P2_1" and press enter.  Repeat for as many P2 folders as you've created.

In the example above D: is the drive that you've copied your P2 cards to, and X: is any free drive letter.  When you open My Computer you should now see a bunch of new drives corresponding to your P2 folders.  Launch Avid.  It will find all your new media and you will be able to use it directly without import.

A further refinement is to create a batch file that does this for you.  Open Notepad and type in your commands.  When it's done it should look something like the following.

    subst X: D:\P2_1
    subst Y: D:\P2_2
    subst Z: D:\P2_3

Save it to the desktop as P2mount.bat.  Every time you boot up Windows double click on P2mount.bat on your desktop before you launch Avid.  You'll then be able to use the P2 media as you would any other media.
