1 - There should be - I would try to search the forums as this thread is nothing to do with what you are asking (apart from it being aboue the JVC camera being added to the approved list).

2 - None of the systems you list in your specification (outside of Liquid which I have no knowledge of [try the liquid forum]) can capture 24p.

Just got my camera back from JVC after service and 'upgrade'. Now, not being a novice to cameras, anyone know exactly HOW to output 1080 via 1394?

I am suspect that my camera may have just went to JVC service centre for a visit - as well as the labour charges.

Hey Solopost, now that your camera is up-graded and updated, are you able to capture HDV24p in MC3 ? Haven't sent mine in yet [hd200], would appreciate and value your input. Thanks.

P.S.- wish I had an answer for your question.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

For those interested - the latest firmware for the 200U (my camera was upgraded too) is:

    SYS V0103
    CPU V0107
    VTR V0103
    ENC V0103
    SD CPU V0100
    SD BOOT V0100
    FPGA5 V0107
    FPGA6 V0104
    FPGA7 V0101

And, get this... the JVC engineer (from THEIR service centre) tells me I can record 1080i to TAPE. Confused

Thanks for posting those numbers...still they aren't what Avid has stated in the Supported Devices list.  Have you tried capturing from your camera to MC3 since the camera update?

1080i captured to tape in camera would be a good trick...if it was true, which we know it isn't.  Surprise

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

I have not.. as the primary reason my camera went to JVC was to fix a dead CCD (they did not fix) which they 'fixed' with the firmware upgrade of v105 (as they call it), this is the latest upgrade that the figures above represent.

I took the camera back to JVC today for them to, hopefully, repair my camera and - when I visit with them in 2 days (how long they said to fix) I already have them setup to tell me how to perform the 1080i feat!!

Also, as a rule of thumb, I do not use my camera as a playback device - that's what the HD50 deck is for (this has the latest firmware). Have not attempted 24p anything - I either shoot in HDV 29.97 or SD 30.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

     Any advance here?

    I assume not...

Is it possible to import/capture 720p footage via firewire as 1080i? The HD50 and I think the HD201 can output 1080i from 720p tape. If it captured ok with sync audio from the HD50, that might work well enough for me to consider MC3.

Otherwise it looks like FCP or Edius.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

No update - still waiting to get this going - the deck does output 1080 but NOT via the 1394 out.

Got the camera from JVC with the latest firmware (reports different than what Avid support document lists). According to JVC the camera does NOT output 1080 to tape.... they did a complete 180 and did not even address that they said it could.... at this point, the camera works again.. i'm happy - back to editing on FCP.

I just sent Avid a captured file, from the HD50, which shows audio sync (over 1 - 3 seconds [as opposed to Avid's reported 1/2 FRAME])

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

     Best wishes and good luck!

A few of us waiting on the outcome of this... I'm looking at FCP and Edius as back-up "solutions" since the institution I work for has bought proHD (and I LIKE the cameras- nice pictures and not bad to shoot with.)

Like most of us, I'd rather edit with avid, but before I drop the dollars on MC3 I need to know it's not a total waste of time.

I gather that the HD200 CAN output 1080i via firewire- so I assumed the deck would as well. Has anyone tried that with MC? I was planning on recording to an HD drive in 1080i...

Looing at other "workarounds" as well- but re-encoding hours and hours of m2t files doesn't seem like a good option.

The camera will output 1080i (post February 2008 - or updated post date) via the 1394 - are you referring to the on-camera deck? Or the HD50?

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

I was ahm, HOPING that the deck would do that as well. Didn't want to use a camera for capturing. But for some jobs at least, I will do it if that is the only way. Not taking anything for granted at the moment. But also hoping that footage recorded to the HD in 1080i will be capturable in MC.

I really thought the annoucement that proHD was supported in MC3 meant - well, it was a viable option. Sigh. Not gonna tear my hair out yet- what little of it is left.

I'm with you on not using the camera as a playback device - that's why they make decks.

No need to tear out your hair yet - I have been doing that for 2 years now... luckily I have a think head of hair which grows back quick. Yes
