Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

Well, from a JVC HD100, 200, BRHD50 and FS4ProHD owner/user - I can affirm that this is B$. Having major issues in capturing with SEVERE audio/video drift.. just take a look through my posts dated from May 2006 regarding JVC. I am working with support in a attempt to rectify this issue from tape and harddrive formats (.m2t from FS4ProHD).

Even though the support document recognises a small drift in audio/video - on my end at least it is several seconds of drift. The system a) begins to capture fine then, roughly, within a minute the video continues to capture clean, but the audio is immediately out of sync by a few seconds. b) when the file is imported (.m2t) the file begins clean then, similair to the capture process, goes out of sync.

I have sent an entire Avid drive to engineering (hopefully they kept the files) of .m2t files for them to analyse... if the need be a raw tape will find it's way to them too.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

     Thanks fellas,

Is it possible that this revision may be correct considering our cameras be on latest firmware update? I checked mine and it does not seem to have the version posted on AVID's pdf. I tried to verify thru JVC online and system could not verify my version. Will try and call them up tomorrow to try and update. Anyone had any success with the JVC HD200 and MC3 as of late using updated firmware on their cameras? If not, could someone update their camera and owns MC3, test it please? The JVC 250 has been working from the get go and both seem to now have the same latest firmware versions. Remember, the 250(1) was released after the 200, therefore may have been released with an updated firmware and is why it was compatible from the beginning. Both cameras are the same except for studio adapters,ie.-T.C. gen, SDI.

    I still have hopes,

    Thanks in advance.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

My firmware is a mix of what Avid has posted in the pdf.  Where did Avid get those numbers and/or the firmware download?  Got a link?  Little help?  Can I get a money back guarantee on an upgrade purchase going from Xpress Pro to MC3 if my JVC200 doesn't work with it as described?

here's the update path for the HD110:

    http://pro.jvc.com/pro/attributes/HDTV/soft/100110_upgrade/110pathkey.html

For what it's worth, capture from the HD110 seems to be problemmatic on a number of NLE systems. My workaround is to convert with Cineform. That always works.

When I go to the JVC Professional site for the firmware upgrade and enter my version numbers for my GY-HD200U camera here...

    http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/software_dow.jsp?model_id=MDL101623&feature_id=17

    ...I get the response...

"We are unable to determine current version of software you have. Click here to go back and try again."

I tried a number of times with the same result.  Hello?

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

     Hi,

When you copy down the setup from your camera, if you have the GY-HD200u model (NOT THE A) the replace the "V0101" on the VTR CPU line for "V0100" instead, that will correct a mistake on the setup and you will be able to download the update folder, then let me know if it works for you. Dwayne mentioned(tech), there may be a problem with some cameras recognizing the folder and proceed with the update, mine is one of those. If you do too then...

Call JVC PRO at 800-582-5827 option #7, ask for Dwayne. I had the same problem. He tried to e-mail me a native update file, did not work. Now I have to send it in to service so they can update it for me and at the same time upgrade to (B) version of the HD200.

    hope this helps.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

Those setup numbers AVID got are wrong, they are all for the GY-HD250u. The 200 are different. Ver. 105 as stated before.

I've been trying to make sure my JVC GY-HD200u may finally work with MC3 before I continue to invest more money into upgrading and not being able to use it., just like you my friend Johnny.

    I still have hopes.

Ever feel like you're on a treasure hunt?  Stick out tongue

Vic, thanks for the help.  My VTR CPU line is currently C1722 V0103.  I have no idea where that leaves me.  I'll try calling JVC at the number you gave and see what they have to say.

    Thx, JR

Update...called Avid support, was told I should send email to JVC for info.  Done...waiting for answer.

Vic, that phone number for JVC posted above doesn't work.  JVC phone support is an endless loop.  Kent may have nailed it on the "B$".  Have a nice weekend.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

Well, surprise, surprise - support, after working with me over the last month or so, just got back to me saying:

"We analyzed again this problem you have.
In the ReadMe file that comes with the 3.0 it says that: Currently, M2T file imports might contain 1/2 frame offset. This occurs in 720p 29 and 720p 25 projects. THe HDV capturing is similar to an m2t import, so it is pretty much the same case here.
The developers and engineering are aware of it, and they are working hard to get the problem fixed.
I will inform you when something new comes up."

    1) What a coincidence that this is what I get back after the latest update to the PDF release.

    2) After 2 1/2 years you finally analyzed it and included in the ReadMe for 3.0! What happened to 5.2.x +? And only a 1/2 frame offset - well then, I guess me seeing over 3-6 (sometimes more) of audio not synchronising must not be factual (or is it just 'individual results may occur').

Thankfully I do have FCS2, which has no issues in capturing HDV media at all... I would rather not have to use it, but hey.. the right tool for the job is not Avid for this job.

Just an afterthought - can something be listed as 'supported' if it does not actually work? I mean, audio and video, during a crucial function of the program, is out of sync and that's supported?

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

I spoke to Duane at JVC today and was told the best thing I could do would be to take my camera down to their Cypress CA office and have them update my camera there to the latest firmware.  There is no guarantee that it will then work with MC3.

The firmware numbers posted by Avid on the Supported Devices list under the GY-HD200 camera are wrong.

    The treasure hunt continues.

Re: This just in...JVC cameras updated in MC3...

     Took my camera for an upgrade. My last response to Avid - after them quoting from the latest APPROVED list;

Yes. I just read the new redme that was released.. took a guess this was going to be how you would respond. I left a scathing post on the boards that 1/2 frame offset is one thing - this is several seconds, not 1/2 frame. Plus - I do realise it has just been released with this... but this is a problem dating back to May 2006....... it has been 2 years in an attempt to rectify this severe bug, especially since Avid and JVC announced at NAB 20065 their collaboration with the new HDV format (specifically with the HD100 camera).

Luckily I have Final Cut 2 on the Mac system which has no issue in capturing the HDV and works perfectly in sync.. I don't like FC but the correct tool for the job, in regards to HDV, is not Avid - nor after 2 years does it look like Avid will be the tool of choice for any future HDV projects.

Keep me updated as to the progress of the "fix" - I should still have the same eMail contact in the next 2 years too."

Quick question - related. I shot a feature with the 110 at 24P.  At the time, avid couldn't del with the footage at all.  So I had to go anaolg in through a deck at 60i standard resolution.  Is there a way of converting a 60i EDL to a 24P one to rebatch in HD?
