Please can anyone help me. I'm working on Media Composer v2.7.2 for Mac. I saved my user settings from another Media Composer machine on to my memory stick - so I have a folder containing a .avs file and a .ave file, named correctly. I have gone to Settings in the project window and selected Import user or user profile, then navigated to my user settings folder copied on to the desktop.... but either nothing happens or else a window comes up saying User settings file not found.
I have now spent about 7 hours trying to import my user settings, with no success. Someone in the know told me that there should be an MCState file with my settings and that this should be rebuilt automatically - but that doesn't seem to be happening. I have tried trashing the MCState file in the Avid Media Composer Settings folder, but that has not helped. If anyone has any ideas I'd be really grateful as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
What version was the other machine?

MCState doesn't have anything to do with your user settings. The thing you should concentrate on is figuring out why the 2.7.2 machine doesn't want to import the settings from your memory stick.

7 hours?! You probably could have just redone your user settings by hand at least once during that time. Mine are mildly complex and it only takes about 15 minutes to set them up.
good luck,Carl

Instead of importing them, just go to the settings tab, chose "open Settings File" from the file menu and navigate to your old settings. Once those open, drag them into the project window's settings tab and choose to Add them to your current settings. Voila, all your settings are now accessible.

Thanks Carl! I can't find out right now what version it was - maybe 2.8, but I'll know a bit later. Yes, I could have redone my user settings, but I know I have to save them to use on yet another machine, so I needed to try to understand why it wasn't working! If I can't work this out I'll post again with the version and see if you can help me. Thanks so much, Connie
Have you tried just draging your user settings folder to the AVID User Folder? You'll find it here:

Thanks very much, but can you be more specific please as I'm not managing to do this. When I navigate to my previous settings I can select only the .avs file and not the .ave file. When I select the .avs file, it appears as text and I can't seem to drag that into the proj window's settings tab. I must be misunderstanding your instructions. Look forward to hearing from you again, I hope.
I think so too.
1. Click on the project window in the application
2. Select the "Settings" tab
3. go to FILE>Open Settings File
4. Navigate to (your settings).avs (the old ones)
5. Open them
6. Drag your settings from that window into the "settings" window in your Project Window.
Thanks very much indeed. Problem solved at last!!
