    MC 3.01 Dongle update problem

I purchased the XP to MC upgrade a few weeks after it became available. I upgraded 2.7 to 2.8.3 no problem.

I downloaded 3.01 from the website, where my system details were happily authorized. Now installed 3.01 on new drive (clean install OSX 10.4.11.) - as  I want to keep running 2.8.3 for BCC if needed.

When I launch 3.01 it says "Unlicenced..."

There is no dongle updater in the Dongle Manager folder from this download. I tried the 2.8 updater, but still no joy with 3.01.

When I go to avid.com/upgrade, my upgrade key from my purchased 2.7 version won't work as it has already been used.

When I try to report the problem at downloads problems as suggested in other threads, I am presented with an Excel document, which I can't use because I am not running that application.

I have wasted hours on this already, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: MC 3.01 Dongle update problem

You need to go to avid.com/protect. Fill in the info and you should receive the correct dongle updater.

Re: MC 3.01 Dongle update problem

Thanks for the quick reponse BLKDOG. I got the download  of MC 3.01 from avid.com/protect. I went there again and downloaded versioner 3.0 for mac. (Is that correct for 3.01?).

Now what do I do with it? I can't find a way to open it. Sorry if I'm being stupid..

Yes, that's the one. Just download the dongle manager (Assuming you don't already have it) from avid.com/dongle and use it to update your dongle.

    Many thanks BLKDOG.

It is such a reassurance that guys like you (and many others) take the time and have the patience to help.

Had to blast it 3 times, but 3.01 is up!

Re: MC 3.01 Dongle update problem

MC 3.01 up and running thanks to some much appreciated help from BLKDOG.

Just to let those interested know: I have set up 2 dual boot systems so that I can run MC3.01 as well as 2.83 on both my MacPro and G5.

The biggest hassle was getting all my other applications to be accessible from whichever drive I launch. Some applications need re-installation, and some don't. And then you need to be able to access the same documents and user data. Its tricky, but I think I've cracked it.

Anyone who wants to try this, I'd be happy to share my experience. ( while I remember what worked and what didn't...)

The dongle - despite all the pitfalls and procedures for upgrades, is definitely the easiest way to move between systems.
