Both old titles and new titles. Titletool and Marquee.
Also, sometimes happens on importing.

The Titles were originally created on MC 2.8.3 in off line then the sequence was brought to me on the SN

That's what I thought....
Titles created in MC and/or XpressPro use RGB and Symphony uses RLE. That's why the dialog box says something about converting RGB to RLE.
What version of Symphony are you using?
I had seen issues (ie Access Violations) with titles created in XpressPro 5.2.4 or 5.6.4 and brought into Symphony 1.6.3, but it was fixed as of 1.6.7, I believe

I just up graded to SN 3.0. Never had the problem with 1.8. Just the new version.
It just seems strange that sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. If it was a conversion issue, wouldn't it just not work at all?.It's got me stumped.
in my case it was all new titles created in SN 3.0, no recreating of titles from offline.
1.8 used to run out of memory doing titles but only about once a day in my case,
and just restarting SN used to take care of it.
this issue in 3.0 is MUCH more frequent
I have had this problem as well in 1080p 23.98 projects with both newly created titles and titles that were created in 1080p 23.98 projects in SN 1.8.3. None of my titles are recreated from offline and the problem in SN 3.0 is "much more frequent."

Avid?
Yes, it's a memory issue and Avid knows about it. About a week after v3.0 was released I had the problem, sent the sequence to Avid, they were able to recreate it so it's a documented bug. I have a bin in a project I've called title creation. I now make all my titles in it before going into my main sequence and dropping them in.
The issue comes up with titles created in the Symphony and with ones recreated from other Avid products. On our system, whenever the memory gets above about 55% this issue pops up. Unfortunately several of our sequences alone cause the memory to be far above this. In that case I have to make sub sequences of the area, open them in my title creation project, recreate the title then go back into my original sequence and cut the title back in.
Hopefully this and a few other problems will be fixed in 3.1, whenever that will be.
Earlier, I think you had posed the question, "Can I go back to 1.8?" I had some of these similar issues after I upgraded, and also wanted to go back to 1.8. Avid told me it was possible, so I tried to do it, and guess what? Couldn't launch it. Not sure what the heck happened, but I was able to re-load 3.0...which sucks ass. I have no confidence in it....wished I didn't upgrade....

If you re-install the OS you can go back. It's not a painless move if you have a ghost image of your system with 1.8 on it.
