I have a dilemma... I have a media lab of 19 Avid editors and 11 edit suites to teach students at a college. We currently need to upgrade our computers so we can get Media Composer to run in the lab and edit suites.
After looking at qualified systems for Media Composer 3.0, that list does not include ANY CURRENT computers offered by Apple from the past few months. Considering we our educational, we have guidlines about computer systems we can purchase. All I have are the new options... 20-inch 2.4Ghz, 20-inch 2.66Ghz, 24-inch 2.8Ghz, and a 24-inch 3.06Ghz.
With this said, is anyone running MC 3.0 on any of the above new Imac systems and/or any new Mac Pro systems out there? If not, I'll resort to testing MC 3.0 myself to see what will and won't work. It's just cumbersome that none of these new Imacs are on the "list" of qualified systems yet.
If anyone has any ideas beyond this, I'd be willing to listen!!! Thanks for any ideas and/or support.
I run MC 3/Nitris DX on a Harpertown, 2.8ghz, 8-core, MacPro with the ATI Radeon HD 2600... no issues whatsoever...

The question is: do you use Mojo on your systems? If not you should be fine as long as you have a lot of memory in your systems, and you don't go for the entry level iMacs which don't have a real graphics card.
Hi nitrate1,
I am currently running MC3.0 on an iMac 2008 2.4 ATI Radeon HD 2400. I have 4Gb RAM and it is running without issue. I have been testing Panasonic P2 HD media in 1080i in standard raster and am very impressed with the timeline playback without stuttering or dropped frames. This is using the internal SATA HDD which has been partitioned so as to keep the OS separate from media. I am in the process of testing the CalDigit Firewire VR Raid external FW800 with this setup. Unable to post anything on the external Raid, but I am already getting more than 1 stream of PAL 1080/50i DVCPRO with the internal HDD with basic 2 streams limited effects.
They are some threads relating to the iMac 2.8 and 3.06 with the installed nVidia Geforce. Not sure if MC3 will play nice with this particular card. Some of the other forum users may be able to shed more light on this. Doing a search on this card will give you more info.
Hope this is a help.
Steve.
We only use the software, no Mojo. We will beef the systems up with at least 4 gigs ram. Thanks!
