Can some one explain how DigiTanslator is suppossed to work. It is part of "DV tool kit 2" which came with my Studio complete. Is it an app that works in the background or am I supposed to access it some how? As far as recording at the some frame rate in the feild, I am shooting at 1080i.
Since that is 59.94 interlaced, I herd that that was the same as 29.97
Does the audio engeneer assign a frame rate when recording? If he doesn't is there no frame rate information inbedded in the file? Is this where my problem started?

File save, OMF or AAF, select copy media and Avid compatible. Choose a new folder on the Mac for the media.
With Avid closed, move the just created Protools media from the new folder into an Avid media folder (OMFI MediaFiles or Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1). Delete the 2 Avid database files from the Avid Medai folder.
Open Avid (it will rebuild the databases) and import the omf or AAF.

I would love to but the "Link to source media" and "Copy from source media" options are grayed out. I only have the "Consolidate from source media" option.
Is this A: because I have the Le version of Pro Tools or B: Because a frame rate was not assigned when recording the audio ?
I like your trick to get Avid to rebuild the data base. Now did Avid write that in the help menue some where :)
Sarcasam aside, I do appreciate the fact the you and others are trying to help.
I had time off this weekend and was able to recut my show demo. I have got word my project will continue. The last three shows will require me once again to record with Pro Tools in the feild. So it would be nice to get this figured out by then.

This is my experience with Sonar and Avid. I bought Sonar to dabble in music composition. I choose it for various reasons, OMF import and export being on the list. What I have found is that the OMF import works, but with some limitations. The biggest is that any transistions you create in Avid (audio crossfades) are not translated to Sonar.
Yes the media comes across. Yes your edits and timecode stamps are present. But no fade or cross fades. This is a show stopper if you want to do any long form work in my book.
I know that ProTools and Nuendo do see and translate the transititions from OMF projects.
Video support is fine if you use Motion Jpeg A. This is true for most Audio apps I know as this allows a greater degree of accuracy since no decompression accross frame is needed.
Just an opinion for those interested.

Nik_Nak: The orginal data was recorded on a Mac with a digi 03, the orginal files are .wav I tried exporting the the session as a aaf and a omf. The avid can not find the media.

I found this thread confusing but perhaps the quote from the above post contains some clues. First if the Avid cannot find the media this is probably down to the way you exported the AAF from ProTools. Maybe you only linked the media instead of embedding it?
Nik_Nak: If I try to import the data direct it says frame rate does not match, files recorded at 4800. 4800 is not a frame rate. I don't get that one. When you open your aaf are the files offline.

48000 is the clock rate not frame rate (think you left off a zero my friend). I don't know if that has anything to do with the problems.
I think being as far down the track as you are, and obviously in difficulty then you need to quickly find a workaround. If all you are trying to do is get your ProTools raw record session into Avid (and none of the suggestions in this thread work) could you not export your tracks as broadcast wavs with a 2 pop on each track for sync and import and lay those tracks up in Avid? From that point on you can work between Avid and ProTools as per normal. Maybe I'm not fully understanding your problem (quite possible ).
Generally when working with audio and video, I would want my audio synced and locked to my video. By recording in ProTools in the field I'm not sure how you are achieving that? You would need a stable clock source for both your video camera and your audio recorder (the same one!). Of course sync to video might not be important to your project, but I think that would generally be a good reason not to use ProTools as a field recorder.
